How racism stacks the deck – unconsciously

What if John McCain were a former president of the Harvard Law Review?
What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?
What if McCain were still married to the first woman he said 'I do' to?
What if Obama were the candidate who left his first wife after she no longer
measured up to his standards?

What if Michelle Obama had been addicted to pain killers
and acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?
What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?
What if Obama were a member of the 'Keating 5'?
What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?

If these questions reflected reality, do you believe the election
numbers would be as close as they are?

This is what racism does. Unconsciously, it covers up, rationalizes and
minimizes
negative qualities in the candidate "like us" and covers up, rationalizes
and minimizes
positive qualities in the candidate "like them."
It enables us to feel superior regardless of the facts.

COMPARE Obama:
Occidental College - Two years.
Columbia University - B.A. political science with a specialization in
international relations.
Harvard - Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude

& Biden:
University of Delaware - B.A. in history and B.A. in political science.
Syracuse University College of Law - Juris Doctor (J.D.)

vs.

McCain:
United States Naval Academy - Class rank 894 out of 899 (meaning that, like
George Bush, McCain was at the bottom of his class)

Palin:
Hawaii Pacific University - 1 semester
North Idaho College - 2 semesters - general study
University of Idaho - 2 semesters - journalism
Matanuska-Susitna College - 1 semester
University of Idaho - 3 semesters - B.A. in journalism

Now, which team has the educational background and achievement to lead the
most influential nation in the world? CAN WE SURVIVE ANOTHER DUMBO IN THE
WHITEHOUSE?

I'm not sure that Obama would want to get into Bellybutton school...but why do you think he couldn't have made it into the Naval Academy?

If you don't believe race is a factor in this election, you're a lot less savvy than I gave you credit for, Millenium. Don't get me wrong - I do think you've got it together - just that one remark reflected a bit of a blind spot, IMO. There is a huge voting block that grew up with much more racist attitudes than prevail today. They still think it's ok to make judgments about a person based on the amount of melatonin in their epidermis. Voters over sixty will remember segregation, and many of them still hold those attitudes. They've never voted for a minority candidate for city council, for mayor, for state representative...let alone for the highest office in the land. Race is absolutely a factor in this election. Don't discount it so cavalierly.

:good::iagree:

To say race is not an issue for you personally is fair enough.

To pretend that race is not an issue at all is a very naive viewpoint.

There are whole demographics of the population (and I'm not just talking about the US here) who absolutely will not vote for someone based entirely on the colour of their skin.

You would think they could come up with better educated people to be Commander in Chief and President/VP of THE ENTIRE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

To me race isn't the color of your skin.......it's the thought process on many levels and issues you were raised with, that turns me away.  It's more the culture values, or not........

What I am saying is that the race factor is on both sides...hell, on a recent poll 1/3 of the DEMOCRATS polled said they wouldn't vote for a black man..That being said, on a recent poll, 92% of the blacks admitted they are voting FOR Obama BECAUSE of his race....the vast majority of them have no idea what his stance is on anything, and don't care...he is black and that's good enough...So if you want to talk racism, try it from the OTHER angle...

I say it's a wash, considering the vast amount that IS voting for him because of his race....

Because the odds are stacked against anyone trying to get in...I know. A grad from any of the military schools is far from being an idiot, It's a very tough environment, and most people drop out in short order...Looking at Obama's history and they way his life has gone thus far, indicates, he would not have made it, much less been accepted...

Disipline is not Obama's strong suit....and he certainly is not a military type guy, woulldn't you agree?

Here's a good little  cut and paste...not my words, but certainly as good as the sweetpea post that wasn't his words either..
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am still trying to figure out how McCain's gpa figured into racism.  I really dont understand where either Cindy McCain or Michelle Obama went to school is revelant.   I've known several people in the nursing profession who do test well but lacked common sense.    I knew 2 nursing students who were kicked out of school for being total  idiots.  They were on the deans list every quarter.  They did really stupid  things to their assigned patients.  We are all taught  "do no harm".  Honestly, doing no harm takes alot of common sense.................I am thankful I do have it.

I am also aquainted with people who are divorced...............and they are caucasion, african american, hispanic, asian, and middle eastern.  I dont think that makes a person bad.  What about Bill Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky?  He lied to congress over this and wasn't that why they brought about impeachment trials?

I also believe elitism is racial in itself when a person is judged by what his alma mater is and is it Ivy League.   Just because Sarah Palin did not attend an Ivy league school...............does that make her degree a nonexistant degree?  Her parents were 2 teachers...........what is wrong for somebody in the White House not attending an Ivy League school?  Racism is like swearing......... people who cant argue the issues or people who cant artibulate words or sentences use it.

Hasn't  Barack Obama ADMITTED he used cocain?  Geez!  Ignorant people.

Being smart or having the ability to read from a teleprompter doesn't automatically make the leftist agenda acceptable...

Geezus....is my own sister a closet liberal??????  I love how people say shit like this, as if the one and only thing a black person is judged on is based on the "amount of melatonin" in their skin.  This makes me want to run screaming in frustration down the street.

I've said it a thousand times, and I guess I have to say it again; there are niggers of ALL skin colors and there are black people.  There is a huge difference.  It's not about what color their skin is, it is about what they show me that I judge them.  I met a kid the other day who is white and I'd call him a nigger all day long because of how he acts.

Not too much of a closet about it. I'm conservative on some things (mostly financial), and I'm liberal on a lot of things (mostly environmental, scientific, and social).

I made no direct personal correlation in my post. What I said was that there are some people who think that way. I did not attribute motivation to any particular person.  For many people, the color of his skin is enough to make them vote for someone else.  For many people, the amount of melatonin in his skin is sufficient reason to look elsewhere.
