Since both Parties are the same to me, my vote for a third party can't possibly be a waste because I don't give a damn which of the two major Parties it "pulls" votes from. Every vote away from the two major Parties sends a message. Like I said, I won't be condoning the status quo any longer. I will not vote according to projected win forecasts or for the two major Parties. I don't like where that approach has gotten us. I will not be one of those people who say don't bother, they won't win. I'm bothering.

Voting third, fourth or fifth party is not a waste just an expression of ones right to vote that way. It may not mean much but every cycle the ball get's bigger.

The issue is this:  There is no time machine you can climb into to take you to the next election.  Whoever wins in November, you've got to live with that person's decisions.

I'm not saying that both parties aren't corrupt.  I understand that they are.  What I'm saying is, it's simplistic to say that there aren't any real differences.  A Gore administration in 2000 would have looked very different from a Bush administration, and a Kerry administration certainly would've looked different.

Go back further in history.  What if Willkie had won the 1940 election instead of Roosevelt?  What if McClellan instead of Lincoln had won in 1864?  Or if Carter had won in 1980?

Elections matter.  They're not just exercises of principle.

I'm not suggesting anyone should withhold a vote from a third party candidate.  Who you vote for is your decision, and your right.  But when you vote for a guy who's only going to get 3% of the vote, and the top two candidates are essentially neck and neck, you should do it with open eyes.

The only thing that somewhat mitigates this problem is the fact that there are some states that are either very red or very blue.  If you live in New York or Texas, throwing your support to a third party candidate isn't going to mean much, because it won't have much of an effect.  But I'm looking at CNN's projection right now, and there are a lot of states in this election that are either undecided or only leaning in one direction or another.  In those states, a third party candidate could very well throw it to one of the two big players.

Maybe if you could tell me what you think about a man who refers to his wife as a disgusting word like that, I'd understand you better. Is it such a small thing for you that you automatically toss it?

Sweetpea....I looked all over the internet for this story....I can find plenty of links that "say" it happened, but none that can VERIFY it happened....I'm sorry, but when I see a story with  hearsay evidence, I don't count it.

Now, If you will be so kind as to give me a valid link that can verify it with a source other than an anonymous source, or some left wing blogger, I will be glad to check into it and verify it...I checked Snopes, and Factscheck.com...nothing.

It sounds pretty suspect to me....I never heard of it. If it was common knowledge, I am sure Snopes would have it or FactsCheck...

Not saying it didn't happen, just I can't find a valid link that is trustworthy.

Letterman's political leanings have nothing to do with this story. McCain blew off his appearance by claiming he was vitally needed in DC to fix the nation's economy and then ended up ON CAMERA getting his make up touched up for an appearance with one of the news media's softest interviewers. Then he went to dinner. Then he went to his hotel to sleep. He eventually ended up in DC nearly 24 hours after announcing how important it was for him to steer the talks.

It always amazes me how you rather obsessive political people can take a story like this and try to make it seem like McCain has done something wise and noble. There seems to be a LOT of that going on in this campaign. He chickened out on a TV appearance and he's trying to weasel out of a presidential debate today.

No, I'm not a registered Democrat. I'm an Independent and I don't like either candidate but McCain and Co are making Obama look better and better.

It was a blatant and obvious attempt to try and snag as many floating female voters as possible.  Unfortunately she is a completely under qualified, inexperienced nutcase so his choice has definitely backfired.

Will everyone here who thinks that the country is better off than when the republicans took office please raise your hand?

(sound of crickets chirping)

I thought so.

The republican party has bankrupted our country, besmirched our honor with torture, waged an illegal war that caused 4000 dead and 64000 wounded, alienated our allies, ignored the Constitution with "signing statements," wiretapped our citizens, ignored all domestic issues, created more terrorism worldwide, and run the national debt up into the trillions.

Anyone who would vote for a party that has devastated our beloved country and way of life for eight years is either delusional...

Or UnAmerican.

But at the same time, if anyone other than a Republican takes office next term, they'll be blamed for this financial disaster, and most likely all the other atrocities committed under the Bush regime.  God forbid Palin ever gets elected into higher office, but I think the repubs should be held accountable for this steaming pile of feces.

I'm not now and never have been and likely never will be the type to throw links
at someone's head. In my (admittedly pretty brief) internet experience, the ones
that ask for links do so knowing the other person will not find anything that will
suffice. So screw it. Good for you for doing some "legwork" but I don't know what
makes you think *I* could find anything you didn't. I may be naive but the things
I saw on it, I believe... it smacks of truth. And what I was searching for is more
of personal feelings, not always having to have the black and white of it. Not
saying black and white isn't important, it surely is... just wanted something more.
Didn't get it? Oh well, I'm a big girl, I can take it!

The Democrats confuse me...I thought the biggest crisis we face was the worst disaster we have faced since the depression...not my words...Obamas'...but now I find out the most important thing we face is NOT getting a debate....One will bring down the economy of the United States, causing job loss, bank failures, and a stock market crash causing life as we know it to be changed forever and our children's children's lives to be changed forever...the other will deprive us of a pretty speech on foreign affairs....It's just hard for me to think f**ked up like a Democrat....

Or maybe they look rather stupid insisting on a debate when other pressing matters are at hand...and this is all they have to defend it....McCain is a coward?

What absolute sillyness....and THESE are the people that want to be LEADERS?

So you're claiming that only McCain's presence in DC will save this country's economy?

Sweetpea......All I am saying is that in the current political environment, there are untruths coming from both sides...I don't believe it, just as I don't believe the bloggers that say Obama is a muslim..I can give you a lot of links for that one..I'm SURE you have heard it...Just because it's repeated time and time again, doesn't make it true.. You strike me as someone that is willing to understand both sides......just always consider the source.....and if there is an agenda.
