I know there's got to be a reason why this wouldn't work......Other than all the red tape and paperwork, I'd like to know what it is.  At first glance it sounds good to me, but what I know about finance and money matters, you could put on the head of a pin.  Pmh, Frank, Mill, Sirlamre, some of you guys???

I believe 425K multiplied by 200 million comes out to be 85 trillion, not billion. I'd double check the math on that.

That being said,  I'm not socialist and defend capitalism, but it sometimes freaks me out how if you added up many of the big expenditures (Medicare expansion, Iraq, bail outs, etc.)  - certainly the trillion + spent on fighting poverty over the decades - you could buy everyone a house and lots more!

Lets see......take 85 billion from the people... give 59.5 billion back to the people...

Tell you what.....

You give me 100.00 dollars and I'll give you back 70.00 dollars...I'll do it all day long until you realize, the money is actually coming out of your pocket.

the AIG bailout is more than the simple math you copied from another site...it involves insurance on peoples homes and business among other things...

The owners of those homes and business didn't do anything wrong...But it's deeper than that, and no where near enough space here to explain it...There are sites everywhere if you want to read more about what happened......

But how would you fight it?  Aren't we fighting it now by giving people welfare, free medical, cheap housing, foodstamps?  Do you mean creating more jobs, what?

You are quite right - whichever brainchild penned this originally can't do simple math.  It wouldn't work because somebody didn't count the zeros correctly.  Each person would get around three thousand dollars, not three hundred thousand.  Sure, three grand would be nice. But it's not payin' off my house.

I knew it would be some lame ass thing I wouldn't see.  Luckily it wasn't my brain child, but just as dumb that I didn't catch it!  I'm bored you people, and I'm tired of politics!  I thought this would be entertaining for at least an hour!  ::rotfl::  Sorry.

I was saying that I sometimes feel or wonder if all the money being spent on fighting poverty over the decades in all its forms AND the money put into certain big ticket items, not to mention the waste, fraud, and stolen money ... wouldn't have been enough to buy everyone (or at least everyone who needs) a house ... I also wonder, sometimes, what would have happened if that money was used to create jobs either directly by Government or in arrangement with it, cleaning streets, fixing things, whatever ... so people always had a backup job in an emergency or something.  I don't know.  Believe me, I love capitalism, I am just just saying Jesus we've spent a ton of money over the decades directly and indirectly to support the poor or Americans in general ... seems there is little to show for it.  I mean, we've spent over a trillion dollars targeting poverty alone (don't ask for stats, that was just from past memory) and I am not sure that there has even been a respectable dent made.

Yes, I realize ... part of my "wondering" includes that money having been funneled through privatized means.

A shit load of our representatives have gotten rich from the "Govt will do it" crowd.

Ultimately, since I totally support the capitalist/freedom-based system, we gotta get so much money extraction and production abilities from our political whores. I know we all know that, how we need spending control, etc. but damn it is blatant now. No way our grandkids can get us out of the current debt, it seems! And it just keeps growing with no slow down!

The problem is this........what representative is going to tell his constituants HE is not going to get the money for his people because we are spending too much?? Not a damn one of them....The reason?..Because everybody feels it's the OTHER son of a bitch that is spending too much...You tell yours that you aren't going after their piece of the Govt pie, and the next election, you're gone...

Our greed is just as despicible.

Totally agreed.  I took what you said as part of some solid reasoning for us all to collectively NOT vote either iof the two major political whore Parties into office to send a real message about what we want for this Country.  Otherwise, we are just electing more of the same, enabling things getting worse.  It's our fault, ultimately.
