On the other hand his long term associations with Wright, Phleger and Farrahkan tells me that he holds the same type of racist and anti-American views as they espouse (go back and listen to their statements). You can then add Ayers to the mix.

These guys view the so-called "white establishment" as inherently evil. I know what I'm talking about because while growing up in Harlem back in the 1950's and 60's this stuff was being preached by the Nation of Islam in my neighborhood.

Obama views the government as a tool to fix America's problems, including what he views as social injustice. Under his administration the size, cost and power of the federal government is going to continue to explode, which is exactly the WRONG direction we should be going.

Trouble is, I've not heard McCain say ONE WORD about smaller government, at least not with PROOF of how he plans to make that work.

They all say the catchphrase "I'm for smaller government" or words like it.

Neither of them has said anything substantial and meaningful about how they will ABSOLUTELY make government smaller and cheaper and lower TAXES on EVERYONE.

Heck, McCain basically SAYS that he has no intention of lowering taxes on the people who are paying those taxes out of their SAVINGS.

Not that I like Obama any more, mind you.

but people keep talking about voting McCain just to be voting AGAINST Obama.

I really don't think there's anything wrong with voting against either candidate, if that's how you really feel about it.  In some sense, voting for the lesser of two evils (as I've mentioned in several threads, I guess) is a valid decision-making process.

Just judging from their respective backgrounds (Obama's past as a community organizer, chiefly) I have no doubt that we'd (especially with a Democratic Congress, as we'll almost certainly end up with in January) move much closer to economic socialism than we would under McCain.  (I say "economic socialism" because I don't mean to imply that I think that Obama would usher in some kind of totalitarian regime.)  Socialization of healthcare, for one example, would be a disaster for people like me, because if we have to draw all our resources from the government coffers, there's no way we're going to have enough money for people with really serious conditions.

The republicans have devastated our country. Just look around you, and yet they are still clinging desperately to their totally failed policies and their members are still trying to vote for those policies.

I'd laugh if America wasn't on it's knees and about to go under because of them.

Seriously folks, vote Democratic and give our country a chance.

Republicans = torture, illegal war, 4000 dead, 64000 wounded, wiretapping our citizens, (I can't believe Wheels would be for THAT!) destroyed economy, alienated allies, and corruption.

I've heard him say one word but not enough words in my opinion.

"The republicans have devastated our country."

Another one that doesn't get it.

This economic crisis is two years in the making. It has taken decades to get where we are AND during the majority of that time Democrats have been in control of Congress pushing the SPEND button. Unfortunately the Republicans having been too far behind.

The deregulation of the mortgage industry was primarily pushed by Democrats using the discrimination in lending charge.

He has called for less spending, no pork barrel action, and even suggested a spending freeze (which normally means a freeze on the rate of increase due to how the budget goes up each year) on all but the most vital parts of Government to catch up on the debt.

Still not enough, like Pmh said.

However, Bush was also about conservative Republican values when he took office and he became the biggest money whore ever.

Obama is practically guaranteeing more spending.

Both Parties Suck.™

Maybe it's a minor difference, but I don't think so.  The difference I see is that McCain at least recognizes spending as a problem, whereas Obama doesn't seem to.  Obama seems to want to make up the money at the other end -- taxing capital gains and the income of those who make > $250,000/yr.  (I'm pretty sure that's $250,000 per individual.  I don't know what the family level is.)

Increasing taxes on capital gains is a pretty big deal, though.  That increase would effect anyone with a 401(k).

For the record, I do not believe Obama is a Muslim or a Christian.  Based on his words, actions and friendships I believe he is an adherent of radical Black Liberation Theology.  Being a Muslim would be a step-up in my opinion!

I'm not sure that they teach that at Harvard.

You are The Boss... which team would you hire?
With America facing historic debt, 2 wars, stumbling health care,  a weakened dollar, all-time high prison  population, mortgage crises, bank foreclosures, etc.

 Educational Background:

Obama: Columbia University - B.A. Political Science with a Specialization in International Relations.
Harvard - Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude

Biden: University of Delaware - B.A. in History and  B.A. in Political Science.
Syracuse University College of Law - Juris Doctor (J.D.)
vs.

McCain: United States Naval Academy - Class  rank: 894 of 899

Palin: Hawaii Pacific University - 1 semester
North Idaho College - 2 semesters - general study
University of Idaho - 2 semesters - journalism
         Matanuska-Susitna College - 1 semester
University of Idaho - 3 semesters - B.A. in Journalism

Now, which team are you going to hire ?
