Since you asked......

I had a young black man come in my business the other day...They come in quite often with the unemploymet paper work, showing that they are out looking for a job....I have to sign it, and tell them we aren't hiring yet, and please let him continue his check from the Govt..I could tell by his demeanor that he really didn't want a job..but he had to prove to the unemployment office that he was at least trying...in order to keep getting that Govt check.

Getting tired of watching this go on time after time, I told him..."Perfect! I need someone to work here and help with the stock and other things that needed doing", since he had no experience running a business, I couldn't make him the manager.

He looked at me....Cocked his head to one side, and said.."Shit..maaaaaaan, Just sign the paper, I don't want a job.".."Just sign da paper"..

I told him,"he didn't understand..I have a job for you....I really want you to work here"...

He said..."dammit maaaaaan., I don't want no job, jus sign da paper"

I told him nope...Today was your lucky day, If you don't want to work, I won't sign the paper..and don't come back..because I'll hire you..and if you keep on, I'll call the unemployment office and turn your ass in..


That solved it....haven't seen him since.


Now...what say you?....That shit goes on here, and I suspect all over the country on a daily basis....

Mill:  That was a great story, though I could do without the racial inflections and just plain english instead.  About 24 years ago, I was just starting out in medicine, worked part time in an E.R. and started working with another Doc in a low overhead office in Los Angeles.  The other Dr. provided the employees, and one day after I'd been working there for about a month a very attractive African-American girl walked right into my private office and asked for a job as she was unemployed.  Being single, stupid and horny, I hired her hoping I could date her.  It turned out she was brilliant, and was too smart for the clerical/office duties I was offering.  About 2 years later I ended up sponsering and tutoring her to get into med school.  She became a fantastic surgeon, and has improved the lives of thousands of people.  It probably would have happened anyway, but it's one of the things in my life which brings a smile to my face. 

Now, after having several high overhead/multi-employee offices, I have a small one with only 2 employees.  One is Hispanic (female) and the other is a kinesiologist/medical student who assists me with manual medicine procedures.  So to answer your question, currently, only one minority individual I work with.  I had the same Black female office manager work with me for 18 years until she passed away.  I wish I could have cloned her.

What? You don't appreciate the language?...I have no problem with it...I don't see why you did, and besides, that was how the conversation went....

Sorry if it offended you, I didn't intend for it to, maybe you're the one that has a problem.....

I know what you are saying.....When my wife was in the hospital, we had several nurses and one doctor that was African-American. The absolutely best individuals I have met...as kind as they could be, and always willing to help...and good at their professions.

So it isn't a racial thing with me...it's a responsibility thing...no matter what color or nationality you are, if you're irresponsible, and looking for a hand out, instead of a hand up...I have no use for you....
