This year I will plant my cucumbers in a couple of hanging things I got at a yard sale.

The compost pile I have been tending will go well this year (Ihope!)

My seeds are on order and this will be my second year on asparagus next year they should be ready.

Tomatoes will be trimmed back this year (they got a bit wild last year)

The 2nd lot 20x14 will be on the other side of my house to let the sun hit them longer. And the first lot 12x12 will have more trellis string up to hold more string beans and peppers (I really need to space them out better this year)

Hopefully the strawberries (6) will become a bigger patch that will grow faster than the ants can eat them!

I will try this year to do some canning maybe 10-12 jars of stuff like pickles and pickled beets, maybe tomatoes for sauce.

Last year I did not have to buy fresh vegetables between July-Oct I will try to go till Dec this year.

 Happy Gardening!......

To be honest, I have not planted a garden in years.  Mainly because of becoming less mobile.  But I would like to try again.

But the big thing here is my soil is very clay filled.  Even adding topsoil every year did not help alot.  It seems that myself, as well as neighbors, have not had alot of luck with much other than tomatoes, peppers or various herbs.   Tomatoes seem to have done the best.  Also, in my yard, I pretty much get day long sun, which is probably a good thing.   I may like to try tomatoes and peppers again, depending on how flexible I feel come planting time.

Try a raised bed. I did that with my first one and it did well. You really only need about 8-12 inches and natural compost mixed with topsoil will give more nutrients than chemical additives.

We have clay soil as well, so we will use a raised bed and some large flowerpots to plant tomatoes and green peppers this summer.  The strawberries have been growing wild in the raised bed for a couple of years now.  I am hoping to find the heirloom tomatoes.

I just turned my compost pile over and saw that my brussel sprouts did better this winter than they did all last summer! I was lucky to get 3-4 brussel balls all summer yet when I turned over the pile those damn plants had 60-70 balls on them. So I tasted them.................:eew:

I have almost no room so I have to be pretty selective. I have a great

farmer's market source for tomatoes, since it's basically fog city in the

summer where I am, the tomatoes never QUITE get ripe enough to suit

me so I buy from someone who comes over from the hot valley, and they

are great!

One strip I usually put four or five zucchini plants in is going to have

bush beans this year. Then I do 5 whiskey half barrels of flowers,

usually stuffed with zinnias. I know, not veggies, but the neighbors are

white trash  so I like to block 'em if I can!

I love-m with butter and garlic and scullions salted & peppered lightly singed in a heated wok with a bit of olive oil......late at night......::eats::........:smitten:....sometimes I get frisky and sprinkle a little Balsamic vinegar on-em.
