Dishwasher Soap Film RemovalThe soap you use for washing dishes may clean your cups and plates, but it may also leave a film on the inside of your dishwasher. Try this kitchen cleaning tip for a film free dishwasher: Fill washer with dirty dishes but make sure you have not included any silver or other metals. Place a bowl with 1/2 cup of bleach on the bottom rack and allow the machine to run through the wash cycle only. Fill the same bowl with 1/2 cup of vinegar and this time allow the machine to run through a full cycle.

 Hi, Marie

I think I really need to try this. We bought an OLD house last summer. The dishwasher seemed to work all right at first, but then the dishes were coming out REALLY REALLY scummy. Not just water marks, but nasty white film all over the dishes, way, way beyond water spots. Have tried every dish soap know to man and nothing seems to work. We were thinking it might have been an old water softner in the basement we have done nothing with. I'm going to try this, even though I didn't think the washer looked that bad on the inside, not that I really paid that much attention to the actual inside of the washer. I hope this works, I'm tired of living in the stone ages and washing my dishes by hand. A million thanks if it works, and even if it doesn't.

OK dazed, you can be our official reviewer of this particular tip.  I do not have a dishwasher, so I cannot try it out.

Every couple months I put a cup of vinegar in the dishwasher and run a rinse cycle, clean as a whistle. Bleach would be good for any mold or mildew but it is extremely hard on the plastic and may make it brittle over time.
