What is your view about polls?  There are some that are more reliable and valuable than others obviously, but how much of a trusted tool should they be in general?

Polls in general - professional ones.  Sorry I wasn't clear!

Polls are trustworthy, it's crooked voting machines that can't be trusted!

Anyone who has any kind of background in research will know that polls are generally not very trustworthy. Rarely does the public have access to anything like sampling methods, question construction, standard deviation, anything like that. Sure, you get the "plus or minus five percent" footnote, but even that isn't what most people think it is.

The way a question is asked can slant a poll's results. I guarantee you I could construct a poll that would have a majority of people concluding that the earth is flat, at the end of it. Doesn't make it right.

True, but many probably serve as a good indicator of some general things.  Plus, some are just well done.  Sometimes, companies invest big dollars on products based upon the pollings of people.

I have no faith in polls whatsoever. Who do they poll? What area of the country? How many people? I have read polls before, and then asked people I know, and not just people who think like me, and I get a completely different picture than what the polls usually paint. So, no, I have no use for polls.

Funny how often polls are thrown around as facts or solid truths.

polls are just total BS. they are an outcrop of the field of statistics which was created to make a set of number say whatever the author of the nummbers wants them to say.
