Buying one sheet was 350 buying ten was 302. Thats just crazy! Wanna know what 18 ga. 316 polished is? freakin 489.00 for a 48"x120" pc. They are telling me its because the price of nickel has skyrocketed. I have to sell it at 35% to make any money and everyones freakin out. I cannot say that I blame them. my bids are good for 30 days I feel bad for anyone that went in low on a bid back in March, most people did and are having a hard time getting more money out of their customers. Last month I got 720.00 for a pickup truck full of scrap and that was a crappy sell, if I shopped it I could have got 950.00.

Wow, that is a bit nuts ... what do you usually use those sheets for? If the prices stays real high, watch for alternatives popping up in the market place!

I do not see any alternative. Ceramics are still in the testing stage. Most Applebees, T-bones etc use the same construction companies to repeat the same style. Most are required by law to use stainless in their kitchens. I build hoods to evacuate the heat comming off the ovens. The hoods themselves are usually stainless polished 316 type then go to black iron grease duct thru the roof. Next time you go to one of these resturants, look in the kitchen. It almost looks like an operating room.
The only thing that will stop these from being built would be a big drop in consumer spending habits. I may go thru 15 sheets of polished s.s. in a week. And the metal is becomming harder to get and more expensive. Most state laws require stainless in a kitchen and it may take many years to change local regulations. A typical Applebees kitchen may go for 175,000 dollars not counting the ovens. That is up from 45,000 10 years ago when they were just getting big...............kinda sucks!
