.75 now .50, that's a 1.25% cut in a week, with more to come, possibly.

I don't know how it will turn out of course, but the rate cuts (especially if there are significant ones still coming) could also be a positive force, stimulating the economy by doing things such as:

- lower the overhead for people with a meaningful refinance opportunity, or if they have variable rate-based payments
- encourage businesses to make investments and hire people
- make homes more affordable

I know there are other reasons it can be stimulative, but I'm too lazy to remember or look it up.  :)

24- think of it in terms of your own home and budget. would you take your credit cards and live off of them for a while and then worry about getting a job to pay them off later? no......not only would you have to pay back what u borrowed, you would also have to pay back the interest on the money that u borrowed. the rates cuts are bigger than what the shills in the media are telling us. its a chess game, and im not saying checkmate for america, but this isnt good. somehow we'll get out of this. how? i dont know

Just how bad could it get?

Could it be as bad as the Great Depression?

Not sure, but cuting rates sure seems like a good idea compared to not, or raising them.

Looks that way...I thought I saw something about it on the news.

But someone also said, "It's a vicious circle. If we cut rates, the size of the dollar goes down and the oil prices rise because oil is traded on a dollar standard.

Well, Bear Stearns just went belly up. Its share value fell to basically zero overnight. The Fed dumped tons of money into it and that didn't do anything; JP Morgan bailed it out; in effect buying it for nothing. This is one quite amazing example of how wrong the system is and only a harbinger of what's to come. I hope y'all are stocked up on precious metals: au, ag, pb, etc.

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. -Matthew 22:37-39
