Got a call from my ex this morning about it.  He works at the same place as our friend.   We've both known him most of our lives (went to school together).  I don't know his new wife (the one that was shot)..........this was all that the news story said:

"Broken Arrow Man Arrested After Fatal Shooting KOTV - 9/12/2006 10:39 AM - Updated: 9/12/2006 11:57 AM Broken Arrow Police are investigating their first homicide of the year.
Police tell the News on 6, they received a 911 call just before 7 AM Tuesday from a man who claimed he'd just shot and killed his wife.
Police got to the home in the 800 block of West Hartford and found a 42-year-old Tonya Shaleen dead from a gunshot wound. Police took her husband, Joel Shaleen, into custody.
Officers say there had been at least one prior domestic call to this house over the summer."
What a way to start the day.......pretty weird.

Wow, just one homicide this year?  That's pretty good.

Everybody at Flight Safety (where he and my ex work) are pretty shocked about this.   I'm sure there's more to the story than what we knows so far.

They said on the news that there were two young people age 17 and 20 in the house at the time, so I assume that was his youngest 2 kids........he has four kids, the older two are on their own now.

He's had problems in the past with drugs, but he has been clean for quite a while and was always a pretty laid back guy.   I know there is more to the story than we know about yet.

I'm sorry about the tragedy that has hit close to home Cher.

It's clear to me what needs to be done.  Obviously a wrongful death lawsuit needs to be filed against what ever company produced the gun and the bullets.

You forgot about the company that produced the steel for the gun, the company that logged the wood from which the grip was made, the firm that mined the ore for the brass cases and the gunpowder manufacturer among others...

What about Cherwood herself?   Clearly, had she acted sooner this could all have been avoided.

I've been talking to Joel's mother and have learned just a bit more.  Seems the previous domestic violence case involved the wife pulling a gun on him.  She has had pretty severe drinking problem and he was trying to get her to quit.

So it could very well be a matter of self-defence.
