My roomate who claims to be "manly" refused to do it.

He said its his blood and he aint' partin' with it.

Between all of my trips abroad to 3rd world countries and my fondness for tats, I'm not allowed to donate.  If I can stay home for awhile, I can donate in about 4 months.

They use the blood for reasearch purposes.  I switch between them and Red Cross

The Red Cross has been lobbying for some time to run another blood collection company out of business.  This other company was grandfathered in and exempt from a law that forbids a company to pay donors for blood.

This other company only operates in certain areas of the country, so the Red Cross prices their blood very low in those markets and keeps it very high where they have no competition in order to destroy their markets.  How's that for leveraging an unfair advantage?  Does that sound like a not-for-profit company to you?

Oh yeah, keep in mind this other company charges hospitals for their blood (because they are for-profit and pay donors).  ARC is not allowed to charge for their blood, so they instead charge an "Administration Fee" to hospitals that amounts to more than what the "for-profit" company charges.

They can't hide their profits fast enough.  They're paying volunteers nothing while Directors are making the maximum amount that a not-for-profit company is allowed to pay.

I'd pour my blood in the sewer before giving it to the ARC.
