update:  We met with the 'negotiator' last week <turned out it wasn't the same guy>, and expressed our concerns, he asked what we wanted, he wanted us to put a dollar amount on it.  :dunno:  We threw a figure out that we thought was reasonable...(actually way too low)...as the board was meeting the next day....my husband finally called him last night as we hadn't heard anything.

He said, the board does not want to set a precedent for 'inconvenience', but they decided they are going to rewrite the contract and include several provisions just for us.  The contractor will be required to build the new section of the lane first, which will allow us access at all times.  Also, we are to keep a log of any and all inconveniences and expenses we incur as a result of this, and turn them in when it's done, and they will compensate us.  Also, initially they were going to own the new section of the lane and we would have an easement...but they don't want to have to maintain it, so they will give it to us, upon completion.

So, keeping our fingers crossed that all goes well.  ::thumbs::

Wouldn't you really rather they have the obligation to maintain the lane?

yeah, but they said that was out of the question...they refuse....don't want to start something, if others find out.

I see.

My dad develops subdivisions in his spare time. He builds the roads according to the regulations and then deeds them to the county. I suppose that is different from a private lane that is only used by one property owner.

Anyway, I'm glad this upset appears to be working out for you.

Yeah, that was what was worrying us...since it only affects us, we figured they would try to screw us big time...I guess time will tell...but at least we have a better idea of what's in store.

Thanks for your assistance!

I just now read about this situation.  I hope things work out the way you and your husband want, Amy.

and so it begins....

Last Thursday the heavy equipment started arriving.  Friday they began moving dirt, a friend of mine was being nosey, drove down the road even though the road closed signs were up...talked with the guys and called me and let me talk to the guy in charge.  He asked what we drive and assured me that when his crew saw us coming they would clear a path right away.   When I got home that night they were still working, I talked with the guy, who informed me that he was going on vacation the next day, but his guys were good guys and would do everything they could to make this as painless as possible for us...(but they were expecting to have their part of the contracting done before Thanksgiving).

Well, yesterday morning, our phone went dead.  They accidentally cut the phone line.  Was scheduled to be moved on Monday, so it will be fixed then.   So that's why I haven't responded to any threads in the last 24 hours.  I had to go to the store today, so stopped in my office to take care of a few online responsibilities and post this.

I went down the lane to ask them if they knew where it was, the first and second guys didn't know, but thought they might have done it...the third guy, got off his bulldozer and apologized profusely, yep he realized it as soon as he did it, and this was about 10 minutes before they were gonna stop for the day.

and now it's raining.  <sigh>   mud, mud, mud, mud... I may have to drive an extra 20 miles to come in over the bridge so i don't get stuck.

They told me they're (a different contractor) pulling the bridge on Nov. 26th...so they have to get the roadwork on our side done prior to that so they can move their equipment to the other side before the bridge is gone, otherwise they'll have to drive it all about 20 miles to come in from the other side.

The guys kept expressing concern that they didn't know how the other contractors would be able to give us continuous access.  :dunno:  ummm...i said that our new lane is supposed to be done first!  and that would probably be part of their job before Thanksgiving.  ::scratch::  They didn't have the plans with them, so weren't sure.  <sigh>

I hope this isn't an omen of things to come.  ::faint::

am keeping track of everything that transpires...

it's gonna be a long winter.  :(

I'll post some pics when i can get online at home.

here is towards the end of our lane looking back toward the house (it's hiding behind the trees).

here I'm turning the other way looking towards the end of our lane...you can see the bridge that will soon be no more...they will be moving the end of our lane somehow to meet up with the new road.

Here's the bridge that will be replaced with a new concrete one....the end of an era...

and this is what I have to drive through to get to work... and the fun begins... they're moving the road from going straight to the curved part on the left...because according to standards it must have a certain curve in it when approaching a bridge...

I just hope it doesn't rain or snow before they get it rocked.... <sigh>  or I'll be calling the county asking they send a helicopter to take us to work.  :lmao:
