I've been wanting a digital SLR camara for some time, to use when hiking, biking etc.

I picked up the Olympus E-Volt 500 with 2 lenses (package deal for $700).

The lenses were 14 - 45 digital zoom and a 50 - 150 digital zoom.

I also added a few Seagate 8 GB CF photo-drives for storage.

That camara kicks booty, I've been snapping a lot of quick shots of my cat as well as the surroundings in the mountains where I work.  Lots of fun so far.

The amount of control and capability on these new camaras amazes me, I grew up with an olympus om-1 and om-2 and this is just like where I left off, only no film.

You should have gone for the Nikon D70 or D50 or one of the Canon models.  Noone uses Olympus anymore (that's why it was so cheap).

I compared to the Nikon and canon, the Olympus had better numbers.  2 lenses vs 1, 8mp vs 6.1mp (nikon), I think the canon was 8 so that was a wash.  The Olympus was $100 more for the package, but the additional lense would be about $400 from nikon or canon so this was a better deal.

I doubt that no one using olympus is a fact, there are more olympus lense configurations than most any of the other camaras I looked at.  Plus, even if no one else used one, I still will have pictures and it doesn't matter much.

Xpipe, I'll post some photos when I get them moved off the drive.  I'm in a call now and sorta busy (not busy enough too stop from goofing off posting here once in a while).

Congratulations !!! You should have a lot of fun with that setup :)

I spent WAY too much for a new Nikon D-200. I wish I'd done a bit more shopping.
