Although I know the avatar is posted with good intentions, I as a mere civilian actually think it is a poor presentation of a police image.

All too often we are reminded that police are metamorphosizing into instruments of control.

But then, I'm an old coot who remembers when police actually gave "warnings" and rarely thought of their weapon.   That was in a different time I realize.

But I still don't like looking at police with guns drawn.

AND.... I'm a GUN NUT!!!

Sorry.  Just a difference of opinion.  I find it a poor police image.

I would wager the sheriff would also.

Police PR is hard enuff as it is.

::scratch::  :dunno:

Uhh.....would a kitten in her holster exhibit a better "police image"??  Maybe pointing a boquet of flowers?  No wait, I know.....she should have "Unarmed and harmless" tattooed on her forehead!!!

I'm failing to grasp how a cop with a gun promotes a poor police image.

No, but a gun in her HOLSTER would.  My own personal opinion of police is that they should protect and SERVE.

And by that I mean to remain present but non-threatening unless called upon to act with deadly force.

I have NO desire for a POLICE state.

But when the first assumption is that anyone questioning the suitability of the pose must be a "perp", it just confirms my opinion.  (I think that was joking)

As she says, it is a tool of the trade.   I agree with that.

It's "cute" in a perverse way.   I just think it's improper.

But ONLY for police.  Contradiction?  Perhaps.  But not the image I would choose for a group supposedly dedicated to ASSISTANCE.

I have a fairly rare California CCW and one of the things stressed heavily in our required "legal updates" (to maintain the CCW) is that DISPLAYING the gun is an ESCALATION.   And to be avoided.

It's a free country.  I just want CITIZEN freedom to be first and foremost in the scheme of things.

*sigh* this WAS meant to be a humorous thread. i don't apologize for my avatar, the people here who have known me for years know that i'm not some-jack-booted nazi. and i have protected and served for many years.

as for invoking what my sheriff would approve of...i don't recall ever citing my name and the name of my dept. anywhere in this forum as a representatative of my sheriff. i'm here as myself only.
