Braille on drive-up ATMs came about as a result of economies of scale.

Drive-up ATMs have Braille because they *all* have Braille. The Americans with Disabilities Act required that walk-up ATMs have Braille. Rather than make two kinds, and have all the associated expenses from that, such as two assembly lines, different tooling, the logistics of shipping different kinds of devices, etc., it was decided that they all should have Braille.

Why is "abbreviation" such a long word?
