Here's the roses I promised LC.  It's where my parents live, in the little house by the river...........

Here's the front yard.........

Take a look at the view below, down the sidewalk!  The neighbors love walking by there.  You can smell the roses from a block away...........

LC....I'm glad you're enjoying the pictures.  I'm glad I finally got them posted!

I planted every rose in that yard, for the exact purpose of it being a Beach Cottage/English Garden!  I started planting the minute Shanii and I moved there in 1999/2000.  Some, I cut back very little because I wanted them to be huge!  You might like to know that every one I picked, I picked for the prolific rose smell.  At night I use to have my bedroom window open all night just so I could smell the roses......  I also liked to pick a pretty one, and put it in a little glass in the fridge.  Every time I opened it, it made me smile.............

AMY, They do smell really sweet when you get within about a block sometimes of the yard.  Some of them have a spice fragrance, some really sweet, some old English rose fragrance.  All combine they're wonderful.........

My dad, rest his soul, used to grow roses. He treated them with a lot of TLC, and they were beautiful, just like these. Everytime I see roses, I think of him and my mother. Her name is Rosa, and he called her his Rose. Sorry to go sentimental on ya'll.

Awwww .....  it does make me seriously consider doing up roses.  We haven't planned our property/yard out seriously yet.

That's a sweet story Mud.  I bet your dad and your mom would like those roses......

Frank.....They're a lot of work, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.  If you're into spraying, cutting and protecting them in the winter from harsh cold, they would well be worth it.  I would suggest, a small area to start, or even just a couple of bushes to start, see how you like it.  You can always add more.  Get disease resistant bushes, and maybe some for their fragrance........  You can choose a color and just plant various different hues of that color...........Or all verities of color............

They would both love them. Somewhere around here, I have a recipe and instructions for the plant food dad used. I hope I'm able keep it safe, it's in his handwriting.

Hmmm... if they are a lot of work then they are probably not for me - not at this stage, anyway. I need low maintenance property for now.  The garden to grow some stuff was going to be my max .. I didn't realize roses were significant work.  Thanks for the heads up!

Foxie that is the most beautiful garden I have ever seen. My sister grows beautiful roses as well just like that. Your gardens is very special.
