I passed my stamp collection on to my sister and brother three decades ago, but some of the stamps I found most fascinating from an historical point of view was a collection of postage stamps from the Weimar Republic.

The Weimar government was so devestated by the reparations demanded by the Treaty of Versailles in 1919 that simple five and ten mark postage were overprinted in b ig black crude letters 500,000 marks--inflation had hit them so hard that a mailed letter cost half-a-miillion marks to mail it across the street.

I liked the Hungarian inflation stamps.   They went into the BILLIONS.
