I do not know if these little bikes are popular where you live but they sure as hell are here. I think a lot of it is younger people can get a liscense for them at a much younger age than a car liscense.

Also many adults use them for short traveling distances to-from work.

I think they are VERY dangerous to the rides. They are very small, very light and can not have much "gripe" on the road.

Many youngsters are killed or seriously hurt on these every year. I am also concerned that the ones that are truely interested in bikles will use what they learn (if they survive) they wrong way.

Here is a pic from the net I found of the little demons......

Do you have an opinion about these little bikes?

OK...my rant is done......I just don't want to know of another kids getting killed on these

Lot of youngsters.........not sure of the age ride them here. You do have to go thru a training course of several weeks to get a liscense, but like many kids, they forget that too fast and get seriously hurt

If it's what's called a "pocket bike" that is too small to license for street use, my opinion is that they should be driven up the butt of whoever owns one unless the stupid fools ride it OFF ROAD ONLY.

BUT.... if it's a "moped" it is one solution to the American transportation and energy problem.   If the laws were to allow these to use the entire lane for riding abreast (to get as many as possible in one lane) on a highway, it would be even better than HOV lanes and have the additional advantage of solving a lot of urban parking problems.

Mopeds have been in use by Asians for decades.

If one is ridden stupidly, it is self regulating.   They die quickly and others learn.

I am 100% in favor of as much moped usage as possible.

It makes far more sense than hybrids which will give their owners a nice nasty surprise when the battery dies and they find that a used hybrid with an aging battery has NO resale value.

But I don't expect the average American to be able to recognize the advantages so this whole reply is moot.

They get like, what, a million miles to the gallon or something? Hell,  I think more people should ride 'em. My first ride on a motorized two-wheeler was in 1962 or so. It was a Cushman Eagle, a popular scooter back in those days. I don't think people ever thought there'd be a need for something so fuel efficient, but there sure is now. I like the concept.

If they ain't got a license and they're on the things, kill the parents.

There was a new kid who moved in our block last summer and his dad had him on a pocket bike the first weekend.

Noisy SOB just kept goin around the block.

Finally I went out and stopped him and told him I didn't want him riding it anymore.

Welllllll.............yeh, you can guess the rest.

Pop shows up.    WUTZA PROLLEM?

I told him.

He said it WUZ LEEGULL  (which is so goddam wrong and stoopid) so I told him it was NOT.

He told me it was HIS HOUSE and he'd do what he wanted.

I told him that the next call was to the cops.

He said he would "take care of the situation."

Soooooooooooo.......you guessed it AGAIN.   (Damn, yer good)....... he put TWO kids on pocket bikes.

Sooooooooooooooo Mister policeman told him the next time one of the kids was on a street with one of those, they would just pick up the bike, toss it in the car and take it to the storage yard where he could pay the fees and pick it up.

Guess what (you ARE good)  no more pocket biking.

God damned bastard parents.

Isn't that what's called a "likker sickle"

ie, the only thing that someone with a revoked DUI license can legally use?

We see them at times around here on the roads 00 becasue someone HAS to get to work and back.

Newbie, as far as I know, these are not street legal here in Michigan.  I don't think these things have an engine over 110cc's, which is required for a street-legal machine.

And I agree with you; these things put the wrong ideas into the minds of kids and many of them - who are already stricken with the "I am invincible" syndrome - will be hurt or killed on them.  If they were made street-legal, at least then there would be a mandatory helmet law in place.  NOT that I am for the mandatory helmet law, but when you're talking about young kids who are generally always naive, this is a necessity for them.
