Once again I made it over to the Stampede Suicide race!! I love the whole First Nation event..............all except the horse race over the bank and down into the river. This year, I heard all the horses made it, but two riders that I know of, didn't fair very well. I'm not sure of their condition, or even if they made it......... The parade is about an hour and a half. As you can see, I only downloaded a couple pictures of this event.    Now this guy was scary!!  And of course no parade is a parade without the guys in skirts!! They sounded great!   These guys were a kick!  NOW, we're starting my favorite part of the weekend. The first nation riders and their horses coming up the highway, and on up the draw. I'm usually the only one at this place of honor, and it's even free. No one makes a sound, all you hear are the horses snorting and kicking at the ground.............   I'm at the top of the Stampede hill, and the horses and their riders are all trying to be calm, before them and their horses fly over the bank......... Here's a couple looking out over the crowd below.   All of these riders have a lot of guts, b*lls, whatever you want to call it!! I can't imagine going over that bank on a horse running full force when it hits the top of the cliff!  Here's the crowd waiting for them down below. Take a look at how high up the riders are from the river!   Since this was the last day, the crowd was smaller......... Here's the horse team that helps with the horses if there's an accident........... Getting ready and in place..........  NOW THIS IS THEM BREAKING OVER THE BANK RIGHT AFTER THE START GUN WAS FIRED!! REALLY TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT THE HORSES AND RIDERS EXPRESSIONS.....I was darn close!! You can see the smoke of one of the fires off in the distance too.  Here they've hit the river at the bottom.......  Last but not least..........they're entering the arena, and I'm happy to say not one horse or rider bit the dust on this run................

a really interesting view of an event i am unfamiliar with...superb photos as always Fox! i am glad no horses were hurt this year. it's not like they have a choice.

I can't believe it...........just e-mailed a couple of my pictures to the newspaper, and Al Camp, who is a famous Stampede photographer, may even what to use a couple of them!! This guy in the green on his horse, is the 2008 Stampede Suicide Race winner, and I just happen to get this picture of him before he went on the last race! Plus, the picture of the riders entering the arena, he really likes because it's the last time anyone will ride into that arena in 75 years of events! They're tearing the arena down and building a new one this year!! That picture alone, could become famous. (Well, around the area anyway <heh>) I'm so glad I took that one, I think it's the last proof of a very old tradition..............
