i have some old friends who insist on sending mass emails of dumb crap that contains the addresses of 900 people. i am really sick of it!! angel junk and other stuff that has floated around the internet for years. i don't know what to do w/o hurting their feelings, but i have reached the point i don't even open the mails of the worst offenders. DELETE DELETE DELETE. DON'T SEND OUT MASS EMAILS WIH HUNDREDS OF ADDRESSES ON IT!!!

I couldn't agree more. I hate the stuff I have never opened them since I started receiving them just DELETE, DELETE, DELETE..

I'd like to add if I could, that the e-mails telling you if you don't forward it on, someone will die or some such crap, really tick me off!! Do you ever get those too, or how about if you don't forward this, all eighteen billion names will be forfeited?

Holy crap I would cheerfully throttle people who do that. It is the easiest thing in the world to Bcc people instead of making everything and everyone's addy's visible!! If I am sending to more than one person who is outside my blood family, I Bcc everyone and send the damn thing to myself, so I am shown as the sender and the only recipient that each person sees. Simplest thing in the world and some people are too f**king stupid to figure out how to do that.

What I do is harvest every single email address I can find from the forty-seven nested forwards, and send an email back to every single one of them, with the link to the Snopes page that debunks whatever idiocy they're sending along this time. It doesn't take too long of making dozens of people look like a fool before you quit getting that kind of note.

Not to mention, it informs all the people above the one who sent it to you that they are sending to someone who isn't smart enough to edit out their email address from a forward.

Honestly, the simplest thing to do is to filter your e-mail. In my personal mail, I have a filter set up to take any message from (the offender's name here) and "FW:" in the subject, and send it directly to "Trash". Works like a charm.  (This works in Gmail and in Outlook. I don't know if other mailers have such a capability.)

I get a lot of these type mails and I agree.......it upsets me. Many I get are from people who truely dont realise what they are doing. Fortunately several have stopped it......... but hey....... Every few months someone in my large web of friends and family gets acquainted with email and starts the typical forwarding of jokes and other spam. The "send this to 10 people" type ones somehow (and I know this is not supposed to be) make me sometimes downward adjust my original intelligence rating of them. I can be so snobby sometimes, I swear ... BUT ... well, I won't make excuses.
The best human beings start good new topics and vote on the better posts. |
