As most of you in here know, I am participating in the Breast Cancer 3-Day, benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure (http://www.the3day.org).  For those of you who don't know what this is, it's a weekend-long walk-a-thon benefiting the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which funds breast cancer research.  We - me and tens of thousands of other people across the country - walk sixty miles in three days.

Wow, you say, that's a lot.  Yes, it is - it's intended to be bold.  It makes a statement, and that statement is that those of us who do this are fiercely determined to make this disease disappear from the face of the planet.

The 3-Day walks take place around the country.  This year, there are fourteen of them, from DC to Detroit to Dallas to San Diego.  This event raises hundreds of millions of dollars for breast cancer research - in fact, the Komen foundation has funded, in some measure, every single major breast cancer treatment advance in the last quarter-century.

Each walker commits to raising a minimum of $2,200.  And this is where I'm asking for your help.  Not asking directly for money - although if you want to donate, I'd be delighted to tell you how - but with ideas for a group fundrasier.  I have a group of people who cannot themselves give me very much money but are willing to do the work.  I would be incredibly grateful to anyone who can come up with a few ideas for people to help me raise the money I have promised.  If I dont' come up with the donations, I have to make it up all by myself...and I can't afford that.

So, if you've got some ideas, let me know.  I'd be most appreciative  :)

THANKS!

I guess things like car washes. yard work and such is not very creative and probably would not raise enough. I am thinking on it

How about this idea. I am not sure where you live but is there a local newspaper? Would they sponsor the walk....so much a mile for example. Would they allow you to contact others (businesses) and get sponsorship for the walk and then publish the b8usiness name in their paper?
Even at a dollar a mile it could add up if the businesses got behide and liked the free advertising.
It might not envolve a lot of muscle but would take a lot of contact effort

People like to know they did something toward a noble goal. So perhaps you can give them a bumper sticker, frig magnet, ID for their wallet, something to help them publicly identify themselves as warriors against breast cancer in exchange for sponsoring your walk.

I like your idea on businesses, too.  Maybe walkers can wear their logo on their shirts while walking or something.  Or offer to get their company logo or name in some key materials that go out, if any.

More good ideas Frank. My original idea about the sponsor thing (not well stated maybe) was if a newspaper.........local TV channel would get behind it and publish the business names that supoort it..........per mile for example....it might create some cash.
Something here happened a few years ago, in a smaller way, and was thought up and done by one of my daughters who was only 12 years old at the time...........it was a donation campaign for food for Africa.......I forgot where

On your newspaper idea ... exactly, maybe take out a half page ad or whatever can be afforded to put the names of the major sponsors on, to publicly announce the support they gave during the event.  Getting local tv stations to adpot the story is great too.  One could even write-up a press release for on-line and off, read to go!  Increases the chances of it getting published ...

I think it would be better if the newspaper or TV station was sponsering it.......They get the promo and publish all other companies names that sponsor Erinna. That way the newspaper/TV get the PR and so do the companies sponsoring the walk.

That make any sense?

Wow, it is coming up fast.  How are you doing?

I like Frank's idea of bumper stickers or something, but one, it may be too late (I forget the dates of the walk) unless there was a place locally able to make them quick..like a Kinkos or something.  Maybe a sponser to underwrite the cost?  So you are not using whatever money you are collecting having to pay for the items.

Gee, I wish it was earlier.  Home Interiors has this thing where they have jar candles that you can sell for fundraising.
