I think the young will be more apt to do the wild thing when they have an easy out, right there in the school!!   Like Amy said, why go to your parents, if you can walk into a class room at school and get handed an appointment to talk with an abortion counselor.  I had an abortion!  I'd had my three sons, and had my tubes tied...............three years later, I was pregnant!  I'll tell you this, there is no way in hell I'd want my child having that procedure without my knowing.  What do they do after they're done, send them out the door to possibly hemorrhage?  How can you possibly condone giving pills to a child that can harm them, without the parent being told??  As far as everyone going on welfare...........take them the fu*k OFF!  The more kids you have, the less money you should get!  Why reward irresponsibility?  AND while you are on welfare for the minute I would allow....you should be out cleaning our streets, painting over graffiti, picking up garbage etc. etc.  Welfare is a needed program for those who are down and out for a while, it's been abused and should have strict limits.

Ding,ding,ding,ding,ding........We have a winner for the best answer yet!!!:iagree::thanks:

I thank God I don't have to worry about this anymore. My stepdaughter just turned 19 last week and is out of school. We had a pregnancy scare this time last year and she did come to us, but not until I cornered her (in a good way) and flat out asked her if she was pregnant. I found out through my sons who saw that she was blabbing it all over the Myspace universe. Who knows if she would have taken advantage of what they're trying to do at Foxs school. We still would have found out anyway the way she was blabbing to her friends, and I guarantee you that if that would have been the scenario around here, there would be a lawsuit going on right now. And the mental health issues, I can see the lawsuits racking up now when kids start committing suicide because the school thought they should be on an antidepressant, and the parents knew nothing about it.

So in practice they have no options.

I agree that not all families are warm and loving.  But how many teenagers do you think would choose to go to their families with news of being pregnant when they don't have to? not too many I'm afraid...every one of them would be terrified of what their family would say whether or not they have a warm, loving relationship.  This is just one more way to destabilize the foundation of the American family.  I would venture to guess that students who know this option is available, with no risk of family notification or involvement, would be more likely to experiment sexually, thinking the consequences are minimal.

I think this should be out there as something that IS available for kids whose parents WILL NOT provide for them.

It SHOULD, however, be an opt-out thing TOTALLY for people who DO want to parent their kids and BE there for them.

Sounds like the schools aren't the problem here, it's how the Bush/GOP people have set up the funding for this --- so that 'regular' parents CANNOT opt out.

Interesting that a conservative, family values government for nearly the last decade is the one that set UP the funding this way.

At least that's what FGP said she was told "it's the funding, the Federal (Bush) government won't LET us have the money to do this if you're allowed to opt out"

Now -- as far as it goes.

My vote:

Every Christian family-values oriented group/church/congregation should be IN the projects EVERY Sunday afternoon, en MASS, teaching the Gospel to the parents in these low income areas trying to love and guide them into doing things right by their kids, so that the government doesn't HAVE any reason to need to look at fixing what parents aren't doing.

I would think that in a country with reputedly 300 million Christians, it would be possible for perhaps 2-4 million of them to be OUT there in the places where parents are failing their children and getting INVOLVED with more than just the other families in their churches.

I note that the largest number of poeple complaining about this ARE the ones who WANT everyone to have "family values".

And I agree with that need.

So get out there and start TEACHING those values---

In a sense, it's kind of funny that the conservative family-values oriented folks are in here posting about how awful it is that the conservative-family-values politicians that they voted in since 2000 are the ones CAUSING a problem that they believe to be trampling upon the rights of conservative families to manage their own affairs.

And, you rightly say that the 2006 Dem Congress hasn't gotten anything done. Which is true. So you can't blame them for this one.

So go fix the problem that was CAUSED by the Federal conservative politicians.

Seriously.

If it's true that this is a Federal-funding issue, that was DONE by the GOP conservatives who've been in charge for most of the last 10 years.

And they were VOTED IN by conservative family voters!

I should note here that I AGREE that the politicians should HEAR about how they set up this funding.

I don't agree with this plan either..

I just can see the dilemma the schools are in, consdering they WANT to do something for the future of the children, whose parents don't care, and whose "family values" government just tried to control EVERYONE.
