stop our school district from opening a health care office in the schools. This office will be giving our children immunizations, passing out condoms and I believe birth control pills, AND talking to and counseling our children about pregnancy if they get pregnant, WITH OUT WE PARENTS KNOWING!!! What the he*l is happening to our rights as parents?? You know I'm going to raise the roof on this one. What do you people think? Would you allow this in your schools?

i agree immmunizations w/o parental consent would leave them open to huge liability. i'd be pretty shocked.

I'll know more later, and I agree. I'd say just about ANY of it leaves them open for liability!! I don't know at this time what level of grade it is Lib. It's not being advertised very much! Quite frankly, I think they're hoping not too many parents show up.

It would be illegal for them to do it without the medical rights being given to them. I'd say you're going to need to be careful next year signing permissions forms. Other than that, I know that schools WANT to provide the service IF parents want it. And there ARE a lot of kids whose parents aren't RESPONSIBLE enough to discuss premarital sex and drugs with them. SOMEONE has got to do it if the parents don't care enough to do it, don't they? But if some parents don't want it, they should be able to opt out as desired..

As governments via the public school systems take on a large roll with respect to being surrogate parents, especially with the rise in teen and absentee parents, it doesn't surprise me that they want to exercises what were viewed as traditional parental rights. The government's argument is if they are going to have to pay for the medical care of a pregnant teenager, provide daycare for the baby while the mother is trying to graduate from high school, support the child through programs like WIC, provide birth control and condoms in an attempt to prevent pregnancies, pay for the treatment of STD's, etc. why shouldn't they have the right to decide other medical issues for these children. In the process of exercising that control they try to administer this control universally over child with parents that have not given up their parental rights. This push starts in states like NY and CA then it gets pushed on flyover country under the guise of being progressive.

It's true I've never challenged their right to preform surgery without a parent in charge, knowing.........but after tonight I'm going to! And sirlamre..the ditsy blond is actually a Mexican!  If truth be known though.....several people have said the same things about this place. I can see your reasoning pmh, but not when it comes to doing anything medical to my child without my consent!! The government is too strong. If you give the people everything, then you can control everything. Simple as that!!

well, honestly, as PMH can probably testify, it's hard to see the children from the projects getting pregnant, getting addicted to drugs, having sex at 12 years old, and all that.... ...knowing that the parents, or likely parent, is NOT going to lift a finger to help, advise, or do anything at all to protect the future of that innocent child that doesn't know better. I've seen the tears running down the fact of the teacher who had a bright young happy student with a great future of possibly getting a college grant and being the first in their family to go to college... ... and seeing that young girl become a mother at 13 because she didn't HAVE parents who cared to advise on birth control and drug use. Now multiply that for the teacher to be half their classroom --- a teacher who has dedicated her life and time to students, knowing that she cannot help most of them in the way they need it most. Parenting. Ask again why teachers usually SUPPORT efforts to be more in the role of parents when they can be? Ask again why schools want to HELP students who aren't being helped by their parents? This issue is DEFINITELY one that has two sides --- and the other side of that coin is America's future so far as the teachers who have dedicated their lives to our children are concerned. They have a slightly different perspective than "government control" when they see a pregnant 14 year old waddle into their 10th grade classroom.
