I am liberal & to me that defines being open minded and tolerant of others,
So does that mean that, in turn, being conservative makes me closed-minded and intolerant?

...Why would you feel that Mr. Biden's finances and what he contributes to charities are any of your business ?

And why do people think that a public servant's life is a closed book; that the public - the people he is to serve - don't have a right to know what he does in regards to things like this?  If you are running for office and hoping to have a lot of secrets or a private life, you're getting into the wrong business.

Of course I don't think that being conservative means you are closeminded & intolerant...That would be stamping a label on you and I treat people with more respect than that...There are reasons you feel the way you do and you are entitled to them...Now see, wasn't that a nice liberal response.

About Joe Biden's charity giving or not giving, I stand by what I said, its not our business.

Oh puke.  That was a response from a person who wasn't born a Nazi.  I would say the same thing, so don't slap a liberal label on that, please.

We'll just agree to disagree on the other point.

Listen...for the last time...it is our business because they choose to make it our business by releasing their tax info, for public scrutiny..as required.....all of the candidates have done it...

The point I am trying to make is apparently going right over your head...most of the people here understand the hypocrisy in his actions..you evidently don't get it, or don't care about his actions, only his pretty words.

Have a good day....

I have one reason only for thinking that ones' charity giving should be kept private and thats because I want their money for causes that I believe in...I know the mind set of many of these people and if they have to tell the world how much they are giving & who they are giving it to they will refuse to give at all...I have to reassure these people all the time that they will have their anonynimity because that is always the one thing that stands between a donation or not...I don't care who the person is, Joe Biden or Joe Blow.

Good grief...you still don't get it...just drop it...the more you post the worse you look on this..HE gave that small, tiny, miniscule amount, BEFORE anyone had ever thought about looking at the records, he did that years and years before they were made public...He can't use that silly excuse you just cane up with, as to why he's hesitant about giving..He's talking out of both sides of hos mouth on "good will" and charity...He was exposed on this and YOU are defending his actions?

Once again...we don't care WHO he gave to.....it's the mere pittance he gave that is the issue....Now I understand the your mindset.....Just let it go...Save yourself any more embarrassment.

Whoops, sorry.  I forgot about this thread.  I thought it was clear?  We are in agreement that the Government should not be involved in those things?  I was just making sure you included faith-based programs and tax breaks for archaic religious clubs since you were the one making the comment about charity.

Yes, revamp the tax code, I am for a flat tax for example.  I am for less Government dependence on things like retirement.  I think financial literacy and long-term private planning should replace the overly used default Government handouts.  I'm with you.

I am glad you are for getting rid of those tax breaks for the faith-based programs and churches. That was good to hear and to see your reason why (you don't see a mandate for them)."

"Now, as for the other things. First things first."

Let's not put the cart before the horse.

Those religious groups were involved in education, healthcare, welfare, etc., etc. long before the federal government was collecting income taxes, social security taxes, medicare/medicaid taxes, etc..

The tax exemptions were in recognition of the helpful work those religious groups were doing.

You're got it backwards. Let me share a basic principle with you. The federal government can only give back what it has first taken. My argument is they had no right to take it in the first place.

And I was just making sure you got the horse before for the cart.

With rare exception I don't believe the federal government should be involved in charity. I don't find any mandate in the Constitution that grants them that power.

And I was just making sure you weren't liberally carting my tax dollars on a religious horse.

The religious horse was doing a lot of carting long before you paid your first tax dollar.

Yes, just like slavery, lynching Blacks, and denying women the vote.  Great point.
