I've been thinking about the POTD feature.  How many here vote for things?  I vote for posts that I like and agree with.  But I notice that once the novelty of the feature had worn off, members have slowed down and damn near halted voting at all.

I've seen whole days go by with no votes from anyone.  Why the slow down?  Is it because so few votes are allowed?  Is it because you just don't care about voting?

It seems to me that with the new POTD site and the other forums that share in it which have the voting feature, we could see some more traffic here, new members, if our posts were spread out over more of the web.  If any of you want new members signing up, that is.

Frank has mentioned that keeping the vote allotment to 3 per member per day is so a person will consider carefully what they vote for.  Another member at another site mentioned that if they have to consider to such an extent what to vote for, they just end up not voting at all.

Would you vote more frequently if we were allowed more votes?

I don't vote everyday, but I do vote.  My problem is I've seen some really dumb posts being voted for, and a LOT of really good ones with no votes.   Then...........I sometimes see too many good posts or threads, and there's an overload button that goes off in my head, so I don't vote at all!  Too many decisions in my life, this POTD thing may very well push me over the top!  ::omg::    ::sgrin::

Keep in mind it's not meant to display the very best posts by some particular criteria, it's meant to show the post people liked or appreciated the most, for whatever reason. Overall, I would think they would consist of some of the more interesting posts.

I'm not used to this POTD stuff yet. I will have to investigate it soon. I don't think I get enough time to read enough posts to make a valid decision. I'll see how that one goes.

Must depend on the voter's parameters too. It could be used for favouritism and all that, maybe.

I am very fickle when its comes to voting for a post, I judge posts on individual merits which I'm not sure is also the case with some other members here.

I don't use my vote based on:-

A - Who posted it.

B - Whether or not I agree with the sentiment of the post (I have voted for posts I disagree with before based on their individual qualities).

C - Trying to popularise an opinion or agenda for the sake of it.

A post has to be either very funny or very interesting for me to go as far as vote for it.
