These Army personel are citizens just like you and I...Trust me, me being a veteran, they aren't going to put down a citizens revolution..

It's good training and with the current envirionment (door to door combat in Iraq), remember we are still paying their wages, sitting around a barracks all day long does not make one a better soldier.

I would love to see them manning our borders, and I do believe that is going to happen...but they need the training.

Lastly......consider the source of the report....

You're missing the fact that this is the first step to the violation of the Posse Comitatus Act.

Every time in history that a country has had anything like the Posse Comitatus Act in law, the first step that's taken towards violating it is "we're putting the Army in to do a limited temporary job for a specific reason"
and it slowly morphs into more and more --

I'm not saying we're 15 minutes away from the US Army SS and Gestapo --- nothing like that.

But would you like to get slightly frustrated in a gas line at the driver who cuts in front of you, and find all of a sudden, that instead of talking to a cop who goes to your church, that instead you're staring down the barrel of a machine gun mounted on a Bradley personnel carrier, and talking to a sergeant from ten states away, who has his M16 at parade rest, but it IS loaded and charged.

That's what beginning to use the US Army is, as compared to the guy from your local police force who also is a member of the Guard from the other side of the neighborhood.


Having the US Army guarding the BORDERS, especially to the SOUTH is one thing entirely --- and fully supported-- when the rifles point --out--- from the country.

Having them "helping" maintain order at your local gas station, 2,500 miles from the BORDER is something else again.

And last I heard, the "Northern Command" was NOT in charge of the SOUTHERN borders!

Not to mention that this is enacted JUST as there is a better and better chance that people might be rioting in front of banks real soon now...

Yep.  Never forget the time when I was a NEWBIE on guard duty.  Assigned to guard the motor pool.  All the noncoms and officers were siphoning gas from the tanks and APCs for their own cars to go into town.

Bein young an foolish, I asked the OD what I should DO?

He, being a practical sort.....TOLD ME.

"Son", he sez, "why not go guard the OTHER side of the motor pool?"

I'll let ya guess.   Me: 18 yrs old and green as grass.....Them: noncoms and O's.
And IIRC, one of the GENERAL ORDERS is to obey all orders.

And my tour of DOODY was 6 full MONTHS.

I had bigger fish to fry than offered by the military.

I ...did.... work up to bartender, though.   Selling warm beer to tankers from a deuce and a half.

But that was after I got EXTENDED due to Cuban Missile Crisis.
