I have a house mouse running around the kitchen, I have laid traps but still no joy in catching the bugger.  Does anyone have any really good tips on what would be the quickest way of getting rid of it - and I don't mean going round the kitchen with a shot gun!!!  I often thought that a cat would be a good idea but where I live, pets aren't allowed.  Any ideas (even humour ones) would be appreciated.

I hate to suggest this, but the best thing I've seen was one of those snap traps that you bait. There's a mess afterwards, but it's (usually) quick for the mouse. Good luck. :(

Try a catch and release trap with a scoop of peanut butter inside.Put the trap in a corner as mice will run along the edge of all walls usually in their nightime searching.
If you wish to go with a snap trap which will definatly finish the task quick,...again put a little spot of peanut butter on the trap.
But,...put the peanut butter on BEFORE you set the spring!::sgrin::

I figure if you have to kill them, it should be as quick and painless as possible. That's why I don't like poison or those disgusting sticky traps.

This may or may not work for mice it does not work for chipmunks. Slide your hand slowly towards the front part of their body (baiting hand) at the same time slide your other hand (catching hand) to the rear of their body. Slowly move them closer closer together. They may flee into the catching hand or jump towards your face. Chipmunks jump at your face but mice may run into the catching hand. Give it a whirl I would like to know the outcome at any rate.

Oh you're serious! At first I thought you were joking! ::sgrin:: Don't know too many women that would want to hold a mouse in their hand! That is, other then the putter" mouse!!!

I use this stuff, too, and it works quite well. No muss, no fuss.

Thanks everyone for your advice, I already have the snap mouse traps but nothing has happened yet and the traps have been down for approximately 3 weeks now.  My husband put a sultana on each trap so I will try your suggestion of peanut butter and maybe it might just work.  Also, thanks for the idea of letting me know where to put the traps, I have never had a mouse in the house before.

Helefra.  What are you using as bait?  Cheese is a bit of a myth - it rarely works.
Use chocolate or peanut butter.

You've got a very smart mouse and you'll have to use a better bait.

Try this one:

I have sultanas as bait, unusual that peanut butter or chocolate would work, I didn't think they would go for something like that. :dunno:
