It's a good idea to preview, edit, or clean up your paste posts!  Below may help avoid the problem, though.

You know when you try to post something you copied from somewhere else and it won't post?  You know that code and other junk you get sometimes when you paste into posts or PMs?

Like this:

style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #f8f8f8"we won't run out of or even get close to running out of oil in our lifetimes. there is more oil in the ground than we will use.

Or [size=4 today I will

or

Well that's because wherever you copied from has some formatting information attached to it that this software doesn't understand.  You copied more than just plain text.  To play it safe, you can paste into notepad first, then copy it again since notepad doesn't see the formatting and you will then just be copying clean text without the formatting information.  If you see that in your posts and you want to clean it up, you can edit your post doing the above.  If you see people with that junk in their posts and they are asking "why does this happen" the answer is "because you copied stuff with formatting information attached" and you can get rid of that by pasting into something like notepad first.

Also, when it comes to links that are behaving badly or being difficult even after you cleaned  them up, I find that it helps to put double spaces between them instead of listing them directly on top of eachother.

It took me a few minutes to realize <shift><insert> didn't work here and I had to fall back to <ctrl>v.

Huh, I never heard of Shift Insert.  I've always used CNTRL A, C, and V from other programs.

LC,

Consider killing two birds with one stone by spellchecking with this button all the way at the right when you make a post or PM:

It will preview the post for you AND highlight the spelling issues.   :alcohol:

I know, but this way, you will get a reminder of how perfect you are, especially in some people's eyes - like mine.

Hi G#s  :)

Yes, you have the spellchecker I described.  If you have Firefox or other non-IE browsers you might not see it, along with the hyperlink button:

It's not the circled one (I just happen to have this older pic handy), but to the right of that, you can see the spellcheck and hyperlink buttons:

Read this if you use Firefox, Opera, or Safari.
