Jeez, I must be one of the oldest people around here :(

My favorite concert of all time was in 1968. Several of us drove up to Denver to see Jimi Hendrix, Cream and Vanilla Fudge in concert at Red Rocks. The setting was incredible! The concert started with Vanilla Fudge doing "Season of the Witch" - as soon as they started the intro, there came a slightly chilly breeze right into the faces of the audience. We were all pretty well stoned from doing some "herbs" most of the afternoon, so it probably seemed stranger than it would have been otherwise. Cream was awesome, and Clapton was just amazing. Hendrix came on last and just blew everybody away with his guitar playing. He ended the show like he did at the Monterrey Pop Festival - by setting his guitar on fire.

My next favorite is a concert I attended just a few years back (1999 maybe?) at the Chandler Pavilion in The Woodlands, Texas just north of Houston. It was my favorite rock group of all time, The Moody Blues. After four decades of playing and recording thier music, they still sounded just as good as the first time I heard thier music. I must say it was a bit odd to smell pipe tobacco in the air instead of pot smoke

what a great show that must have been.

I always wonder though if Jimmy Hendrix would have ever been considered so great if he would have lived. I am in the music/entertainment industry and many of the musicians feel the same way.

I like his stuff either way.

I like to think that he, along with Stevie Ray Vaughan, would have continued to innovate throughout thier lives and just keep getting better. But, who knows? I think a lot of us fans tend to "diefy" our music idols when they die, especially when they leave us at such young ages.

I saw Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker ( Basist and Drummer of Cream ) at The Newport in Columbus, Ohio. Jack Bruce was a monster with teeth that night. Also The Newport held only about 200 people that night. I can see why people back in the 60`s went crazy when they played with Eric Clapton with those two yelling " Keep Going! Keep Going! " While playing at a frantic pace and still land on their collective feet. They are among the best ever creating some real great oddities in music like " SWABLR " and " Pressed Rat And The Warthog ".

The Kinks, anytime really.  Great songs and a singer that really knows how to play to a crowd.

I have two.

1. The Circle Jerks at Theater Gallery in Dallas, c. 1988. The band knew how to handle a bunch of punks perfectly. Everyone had fun. The equipment was protected despite the stage-divers. The opening number was "Wonderful," and the encore was "15 Minutes."

2. Erasure at Fair Park in Dallas c. 1995. Andy Bell in tighty whiteys swinging on a swing singing "Somewhere over the Rainbow" sent chills down my spine and and brought tears to my eyes.

I wanted to say: Clint Black opening for Alabama.  That would've been around 1989.

I think my favorite was the Forrester Sisters.

No!  I saw America.  That was great.

I've been a guitarist for over 35 years, and I"ve attended many, many concerts.  I am really easy to please as music has been a major focus of much of my life.  My favorite concert was many years ago, about 1970.  The Original Fleetwood Mac at the Whiskey a Go Go, in W. Hollywood, California.  I had been familiar with the Mac as they were one of the most popular and highly charted blues bands in England, even went to Chicago to record some sides with the likes of Willie Dixon, Hubert Sumlin, Little Walter, ....

Back to the show, it was the first time I had seen a 3 guitar line up in a band.  Peter Green, (the Green God) played the famous 1958 sunburst Les Paul, through Orange Amps, Danny Kirwan also played what is now a vintage Les Paul, and Jeremy Spencer played exactly like Elmore James.  So here's Peter Green, playing these soulful echo/reverb laden deep and shimmering blues licks, Danny Kirwan playing frenetic yet melodic licks, and Jeremy Spencer only played slide guitar.  The show was so incredible to me, I found a way to acquire my first electric guitar within a week, and I was on my way to a 2nd career as a studio musician,  a career which only lasted about 12 years but brought me a huge amount of satisfaction, royalties, and fond memories.

It was all because of that show, the one I also attended the following evening.

Music has immense power.

I worked at the Long Beach (Ca) Arena in the late '70s and saw many concerts for free. One of the best I saw then was Emerson, Lake & Palmer on their "Works Vol. 1" tour. Also Al Demiola was most impressive with the cleanest, clearest sounding guitar I've ever heard in a venue that large. I've since found Pink Floyd's The Wall show to be the best concert I've seen. Small clubs are a great place to see someone play live, Larry Carlton (in his first public performance after being shot in the throat by a burglar) put on a great show when I saw him 20 years ago. Coco Montoya in particular impressed me in the smaller venue, his rendition of "Good Days, Bad Days" brought tears to my eyes.
