EXCELLENT thread!!

The best concert I have ever seen was Creed.  2 summers ago, (2004) I took my son on (his first concert ever) his 15th birthday, June 27th, to see them at the Palace.  Not the greatest venue, so I was worried it would totally SUCK.  Holy crap, they put on an incredible show!!  And hanging out and getting crazy with my son made it so memorable.  I even let him play hooky from school the next day, because we partied so hard.  He loved it.

A very close second that moves up to first place when I get annoyed was Ozzfest at Pine Knob the summer of '05.  That was the first time I'd been to Ozzfest since I could never find anyone to go with me, but my husband was totally fired up to go.  Ozzy was awesome, but Rob Zombie played on the first stage and just DESTROYED us from laughing.  DAMN but that man is FUNNY!!!  Hanging out and partying with my husband for 11 hours there was great, too.

Seriously??  Why is that?  I ADORE Jimi Hendrix!  I think his popularity would have kept him in demand, myself, but I'm not a pro about the whole scene, which is why I ask "why?"  Thanks for any info!

I wonder why people would think that as well.  All one has to do is listen to the version of "Machine Gun" live at the Fillmore on the Band of Gypsies album.  There was, and has never been to date such a remarkably improvised guitar solo.  It is one of those rare moments, which most musicians understand, where the head, heart and hands are in perfect synchronicity and you are just GONE.  Hendrix was speaking with his guitar that night.  Listening to him play is emotionally draining, and I feel exhausted after listening to "Machine Gun".

He was one of the few truly innovative players.  Innovative in the sense that he completely redefined what an electric guitar could do as an instrument.  What I would question is what would guitar playing be like today had he never lived.  No one has influenced so many.

Well a few over the years.

The Cure in Berlin, still got it after so many years.

Rush in Birmingham England,on there exit stage left tour, probelly the best live 3 piece ever live.

The Smiths in Bradford, changed my outlook on music.

Be Bop Deluxe Birmingham, late 70s band never rivaled in there live shows.

Smashing Pumpkins,Hamburg, the best of there bred.

It's a close one between NIN and TOOL. . . (until I see my fave band, Type O Negative, in concert, and I'm sure they will instantly take the lead;~) I have to go with TOOL though.

I saw them in Denver this year on August 30th. I'm not even sure I can describe it here and do it justice. It was just mind blowing. The sound was awesome. . . the visuals were unlike anything I have seen (like I said, with a close second being NIN, who deserve recognition for it here too) . . . the crowd around me was killer. . . I was with my fav person . . . plus I'd been a fan for 13 years and had never seen them! It also made me like a lot of songs from 10,000 days that I hadn't got into yet.

A wicked show!!!

But man, NIN was killer too! ::alien::
