Everyone likes to be scared in a safe environment, hence the appeal of Horror films, rollercoasters and Halloween, its not rocket science just basic human curiosity.

I loved the Tim Burton version of the Sleepy hollow legend, and The Shining is  bona fide horror classic.

My favourite genre film................UTR LOOK AWAY NOW !

Is the original Halloween by John Carpenter circa 1978 it popularised the slasher genre and is a very well made film.

'Legend of Sleepy Hollow' My favorite halloween movie as well. I don't go in for the ones they have now that are gross the "Halloween" movies by Michael Myers not for me..

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up worn out screaming what a ride..

a couple that are scary

Jacobs ladder,the innocents (1960 something), Ju-on (japan),event horizon

But I have found the scariest have nothing to do with goblins or ghost, but the depravity of the human soul.

I'm much more about the festivity or whimsy of Halloween than scariness or gore, so I'd go with It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, The Nightmare Before Christmas, or maybe even Corpse Bride.  However, Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow also works, primarly due to Johnny Depp :cloud9:
