A few mornings ago, the morning crew on the radio were discussing if the "radio Star" was, in effect, dead. Killed off by Video, other media, downloads and whatever. I was thinking about it again today when listening to my favorite radio station in the car today. They have live on air personalities ONLY in the weekday morning...6AM till 9AM. After that, and all weekend it is simply just the music with taped station Id's. I grew up in the 60's..and remember much prefering sitting and listening to the radio rather than TV, and all the personalities became familiar. You could call in dedications...or requests, and you knew there were people there. Now it is all technology at the stations. Plus, do people listen as much as before. Even with Sattelite radio, unless it is talk radio there are no on air personalities like when we were young. What do you think? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LB6Q_oycfQ <~~~Video Killed the Radio Star

I deleted a repeat post in my forum ! I am now drunk with power ! Marie and librtyhead !, bring me the armadillo and the porcupine and let them fight to the death ! It will amuse me..............(briefly) Radio DJ's are to me nothing more than a necessary evil, they rarely say anything of consequence or amusement and insist on cutting short or talking over songs that I like. Video killed the radio star ? In my opinion not before time !

Perhaps it has to do with me getting old, I grew up with MTV in the early 80s when they played music videos 24-7 rather than dating shows and things about building $25,000 worth of speakers, neon lights and such into $500 cars. But I believe the medium of music videos is DEAD. It could only be taken so far and by about 1984 everything original had been done. I also think that music is going through a period where there are no new ideas and the old ones being used are not the best out there by far. Does anyone really want to hear another angry 16 year old punk wine about his mommy not buying him a new X-Box? Is a "band" made up of five pretty-boys selected by Disney who can dance, but can't play anything, don't write their own songs, don't read music and really have nothing to say deeper than "Mmmm-bop" really on par with the likes of The Beatles, Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Who or Black Sabbath? I think not!

There is good music out there, you just have to look beyond the billboard top 40 to find it thats all. As for music videos peaking in 1984 ?, check out the music video work of Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry and Chris Cunningham, the music video is far from dead and has moved on to become a true art form.
