I've noticed Canada doesn't have as many patriotic or nationalistic songs as its neighbor to the south. I'm not only talking about "The Battle Hymn of the Republic", either. "This Land is Your Land" by Woody Guthrie is a good one, too. Here's my tribute to our Northern Neighbors:
I'm Proud to be a Canadian
If tomorrow all the things were gone,
I’d worked for all my life.
And I had to start again,
with just my Labatt's and my wife.
I’d thank my lucky stars,
to be livin here today.
‘ Cause the flag still stands for maples,
and they can’t take them away.
And I’m proud to be a Canadian,
where I know I’m somewhat free.
And I won't forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘ Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
Bless Canada, eh?
From the snows of Nunavut,
to the ice of Hudson Bay.
Across the tundra of Yukon,
From sea to sea there, eh?
From Yellowknife down to Kamloops,
and Rupert to St. John's bay
Well there's pride in every Canuck heart,
and its time we stand up, eh?
That I’m proud to be a Canadian,
where I know I’m somewhat free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘ Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
Bless Canada, eh?
