Any fans here? And by fans I mean someone who has seen at least the first two and know them well. I think The Godfather I and II are two of the best flicks ever made, personally, but there is one thing I wonder about. Anyone here really know at least the 2nd Godfather? BTW....Scarface was a close 2nd to these. <------Pacino fan!! CRS; I see we're both afflicted with the same disorder! It could just be a dramatization for the movie, but how how HOW does Don Cicco remember Vito Corleone after 30-some years even though he (Vito) had changed his last name? Vito watched his mother killed by Cicco and got revenge all those years later. Cicco was half blind, half deaf and not wrapped real tight at that point. When Vito gets close to him he (Cicco) asks Vito his name, and Vito says, "Vito Corleone". Cicco knows right then and there that he'd taken the name of the town, not been allowed to keep his real last name. HOW does the MF remember him after all that time???!?!? I know these movies well, and I don't see any explanation for it anywhere, so I suppose it could just play better this way. Am I wrong about that?

being one, all i can suggest is that Italians NEVER forget. maybe his conscience bothered him all those years. or more likely, it was poetic license/justice. i don't think you're wrong. this could be a very fun thread, i have to go

I prefer Godfather part 2 to the Godfather, I think the Godfather drags a little at the start. I prefer Goodfellas and Millers Crossing to both the Godfather films though controversially !

Yeah, I think "Goodfellas" is the best too. Although Casino, Miller's Crossing, and Menace II Society are excellent gangster flicks too.

here's one for you...the origins of Michael's bride's name in sicily. Apollonia? I don't know about the origin of her name, just the name.

i always thought it was Greek, but in the context of an Italian family, her namesake was a saint! i learn something every day! ![]() St. Apollonia St. Apollonia, who died in the year 249, was martyred for not renouncing her faith during the reign of Emperor Philip. The account of the life of St. Apollonia was written by St. Dionysius to Fabian, Bishop of Antioch. Apollonia had all her teeth knocked out after being hit in the face by a Christian persecutor under the reign of Emperor Philip. After she was threatened with fire unless she renounced her faith, Apollonia jumped into the flames voluntarily. She is considered the patron of dental diseases and is often invoked by those with toothaches. Ancient art depicts her with a golden tooth at the end of her necklace. Also in art, she is seen with pincers holding a tooth.
