As I mentioned in the "No Country for Old Men" thread...it seems I've seen several good, yet disturbing movies lately.

In addition to "No Country for Old Men"

there was...

"The Mist"  actually quite impressed with this from Stephen King. (disturbing...it's not quite a typical Stephen King ending)

"Alpha Dog"  (disturbing, cuz things like this happen more often that we realize)

&

crud...there was one more, but I'm drawing a blank.

I'll come back and post when I remember...

how about you?  any good disturbing  movies lately?

i wouldn't call it disturbing, but it was good.

"Brick"  it's a film noir style movie that takes place in a southern California High School.

the dialogue is fantastic!!

Was it that new Kevin Bacon movie?  The one where his son gets killed in a holdup and then he shaves his head and goes insane?

I think that the movies reflect the times.  Betwee the war and the recession, we are all pretty disgusted and depressed.  The movies show a reflection of that.

Really?  Why that one, Amy?  I liked that one a lot but don't see it as "disturbing".  That was a great flick.

Warning: spoiler for those who haven't seen it!!!

towards the end when Leonardo DeCaprio's character got blown away.  That just really took me by surprise.  (Disturbing probably isn't the right word)

I agree, it was a great movie.

Another spoiler!!!!!

Ah.  Yeah, that was a surprise.  I didn't expect him to get whacked.  And I'd forgotten about the last guy who whacked Damon's character!  I had put him right out of my thoughts.  (Whalberg's character.)

that one is really good.  i was really impressed at how "creepy" bacon was able to get.  he could've traded places with Pitt in "Fight club"

I can't think of the name of it either, but I saw it a while back. I was suprised at the outcome of the rest of the family. Normally, these kind of movies don't turn out that way.

Some recent disturbing/unsettling movies that come to mind are No Country For Old Men, The Dead Girl, Death Sentence, There Will Be Blood, Black Book, Gone Baby Gone and Atonement.  Mind you, while some of these films were violent, the main reasons these come to mind are the stories and/or underlying themes/messages of the film.  These are all films, thankfully, that are at the very least worth watching.
