Saw this last night and was very much underwhelmed.

The plot is ludicrously stupid (I know Indiana Jones films are supposed to be far fetched but this one really takes freaking liberties !),  I kept thinking Harrison Ford would hurt himself, he really is too old now to play a physical action hero.

Again there is far too much use of CGI, some scenes just look spectacularly fake and unrealistic, even the peruvian jungle itself doesn't look real. Karen Allen makes a welcome return as Marion and Cate Blanchett makes a good ruskie super bitch but part from that...........meh.

The ending (which I will not give away) really is too much, there was an audiable groan from the audience when the temple collapses and............well go and see it and see what you think.

Not on patch on Raiders of the lost ark or my personal favourite Indy film Temple of Doom.

6/10.

Note to Spielberg and Lucas :- Ease up with the CGI will you ?, special effects lose their impact if the whole film is one long never ending special effect.

Just got back from seeing this and agree. As for the special effects - maybe it wouldn't be so bad if they were different special effects - but it's the same old same old. Moving walls, grinding gears in ancient cities etc.... yawn. And the story line really sucked - suspending disbelief for a merry adventure is one thing, but this degree of required illogic is stretching it.

From what i hear it's a movie that isn't so well thought out or put together, just mostly thrown together in hopes of a big hit

Ford can act sill but yeah i think he should ease up from the action movies

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!!

I thought is was a real blast, with Shia Lebouf doing a great job as sidekick, the wonderful Karen Allen showing up and lots and lots of pure Indy action!

The special effects were cool and the audience I went to with it was laughing and clapping the whole time.

All and all a great movie that deserves to be in the ranks of Indiana Jones movies.

I'm probably going to see this movie tomorrow.  I'm looking forward to it, but I don't have any illusions.

Let's face it:  We're not talking Citizen Kane here.  Anyone who goes to an Indiana Jones movie expecting a cinematic masterpiece is going to be sorely disappointed -- and probably deserves to be.  Having said that, it's usually pretty good escapism.  It's a shame if the CGI looks crappy, though.  One thing you usually can rely on in a Spielberg/Lucas film is the effects.

You got it right, Brian. I think that today's audiences are jaded. Sorry this is not "No Country for Old Men" and its not even "Lord of the Rings" What it is is just mindless summer fun.

That's enough for me.

Very mindless. But the theme music is still good.

I agree that it is fun, but is more akin to a ride at a theme park than an actual film.

The other indy films relied on performances as much as action and I thought the film was devoid of any real performances.  Harrison Ford sleepwalked through the film, and Shia Lebeouef is a young actor that I personally think is devoid of any charisma or acting talent.

The earlier films also had plots that followed some form of logic, whereas as this to me was just a hodge podge of different ideas just chucked together.

The biggest difference for me was in the action/stunt scenes. The other indy films featured REAL stunts performed by REAL stuntmen using REAL vehicles, props etc. This looks like all the action scenes were performed in empty soundstages in front of huge blue screens with nearly everything on screen added later with the use of CGI.

It was almost like watching a friend play an Indiana Jones video game, as opposed to watching an Indiana Jones film.

No doubt the film will make many :cash::cash::cash::cash::cash::cash:.

But unfortunately if they create anymore the Indiana Jones franchise will go the way of the Star Wars franchise profitable but empty CGI pap attempting to recreate nostalgia.

Raiders of the Lost Ark was a cinematic masterpiece. I don't think it's unrealistic to expect that of an action film. I can think of a bunch that were, but I don't want to hijack the thread. Maybe I'll start another.

What I want to know is, how can Henry Sr. be dead and Indy be aging? They both drank from the Holy Grail; they should both be immortal.

Raider of the lost Ark is a masterpiece and more than the sum of its parts. It is a perfect combination of plot, performances, editing, soundtrack, stunt work, cinematography and is more evocative of the time period in which it was set.

The latest films feels like they filmed all the actors on sound stages in front of blue/green screens and then programmed a computer to create "archetypal Indiana Jones adventure program 4B" and pressed a button.  It is action packed but soulless.
