I certainly didn't say it wasn't sick and wrong.   But it's like a lot of other remakes:  You redo a popular film and people are going to see it, simply because they expect something along the lines of the original.  The list of Hollywood remakes is, after all, enormous.

The fact the original is so good and still stands up today as a horror/thriller piece makes the remake even more of a pointless exercise.

:cash: indeed !

I think there's one other thing in play when you talk about remakes:  There's a generational jealousy, in a way.  The kids who weren't alive when the original Star Wars trilogy came out can come to think of the prequels as "our generation's" Star Wars.  Planet of the Apes might have had the same thing going for it -- if the remake was popular at all...  I think that sometimes the makers just fumble with the source material.

The remake of Planet of the apes did indeed make a lot of money mostly based on hype and media saturation. Of course the audience who realise how awful it is have already paid for their tickets so................:cash: it was a financial  success.  Its a horrible, horrible film though, awful script, confusing narrative, Mark friggin Wahlberg !?  Tim Burton should have cut one of his hands of as penance for making such a piece of crap !

The original Planet of the Apes is again a film that hasn't really aged in my opinion and a remake or re-imagining was a creative and artistic disaster. I think some directors of remakes are determined to make their version completely different to the original in which case you start to think whats the point ?

The Lost in space film remake for example, accept for the characters names, is nothing like the original TV series in any way,  shape or form and bares no relation to it and is completely incomparable, if Heather Graham wasn't in it I would have slit my wrists after the first 30 minutes.
