this is a old filipino dance , yes that is bamboo poles that they clapping on the floor and the dancers have to do the dance steps without being hit by the poles

This takes a lot of trying and the filipinos have this down to a art, it's a interesting dance

some school kids doing the dance

Here is another one

notice that they pick the speed up and that is what makes this a hard dance cause once things speed up one mistake can mean a hit foot

This is the National Dance of the Philippines talk about grace and timing

Yeah, this was a big deal in the mid-seventies at my schools. We did it in P.E. and it was so much fun that we started doing it at parties and at lunch hours.

The only down side was that if your timing was off, you got a good bash in the ankles by the guys running the poles.

I never knew that , my wife used to do it when she was in school, she said she wasn't very good like her cousin was

But what amazes me is that the Filipinos have adapted it to modern times that dance is very old dates i think to the Spanish era or earlier

the Filipinos have turned that dance into a art form which is a great thing cause it's part of the culture and they make sure it's kept alive
