I saw this last night at a packed preview screening before the official national release in the UK tonight.

Don't get me wrong its an excellent film, Heath Ledger is a revelation as the joker, if he doesn't get a posthumous oscar for best supporting actor there is no justice. Some of the action set pieces are jaw dropping and all the supporting cast are superb. And Two face?, :scared:I don't want to give anything away but trust me they don't pull any punches with his character changing deformity.

On the downside the film is easily 15-20 minutes too long, there is a lot of :blah: between actions sequences and I still don't like that stupid tank "tumbler" thing that the Bat drives around (although the batpod is pretty cool).

But other than that this is an excellent film and a must see on a big cinema screen.

N.B - I liked Ironman better, and my favourite Batman film is still Batman Returns.

Good review, Ninja! ::thumbs::

One question:  In your opinion, is it age-appropriate for an average 10 year-old?  I might suggest my brother come with us to see it and bring my nephew, if it's not too gory/frightening.

I saw Batman Returns last weekend on pay-per-view.  It didn't suck, but I think the wheels kind of fell off towards the end.

Thanks Ninja!

Maybe I'll take my grandson to see it over the weekend.

No Brian, this is not a film suitable for a 10 year old.

Questions have been raised over the classification it has been given as being not restricting enough, it has been given a 12A certificate in the UK which means it is not suitable for under 12's but many reviewers have commented it should be certificate 15 instead.

The joker is a nihilistic psychopathic murderer and his weapon of choice is the knife, he also kills someone by impaling their head on pencil standing vertically on a desk, and the deformity that two face suffers is pretty hideous stuff.  The whole theme and tone of the film is very dark, this is not a comic book Batman, there is a sustained air of threat and tension throughout.

Thanks Ninja.  With all the gore, I'm considering skipping it now! :scared:I'm not really into gory movies.

There is very little actual blood on display but there is a lot of violence and death.

I enjoyed the movie, but his voice was overdone in it.  Here is a spoof:

The Joker completely upstaged any of the other characters. Heath Ledger was fabulous. Mesmeric. Worth going to just to see his performance. I think there may have been other characters in the movie, and possibly a plot - but I barely noticed. I did however store away for future use an excellent one-liner (which didn't involve the Joker). Re the love-interest lady... Q: Have you known her all your life? A: Not yet!
