Well, there has been some classic albums over the years.

Here are a few that stand out for me and why, please add your own.

David Bowie; Ziggy Stardust.

Or its real name The Rise And fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from mars.

  1. Five Years

  2. Soul Love

  3. Moonage Daydream

  4. Starman

  5. It Ain`t Easy

  6. Lady Stardust

  7. Star

  8. Hang On To Yourself

  9. Ziggy Stardust

  10. Suffragette City

  11. Rock `n` Roll Suicide
In the drab 70s with such delights of The osmans,Base city Rollers Elton John ect,Ziggy came along like a breath of fresh air.

It was an Album, that got music back on track for me,and something Bowie has not realy matched since then.He did come close with his very underated Young Americans and the Brilliant sound track to We children from Bahnhoff Zoo(the Christiane F film)

From the 1st track 5 years to the haunting Rock & Roll suicide it follows the life of a martian(bowie in a loose way) and his strange changing life.

It was said by Bob Geldoff on tv once.

If any late 70s band where not influanced by Bowie there F**King lying.

He did start something that changed the way new bands thought about music.

Top stuff.

Bob Dylan; Desire

1) Hurricane;

 2) Isis;

 3) Mozambique;

 4) One More Cup Of Coffee;

 5) Oh Sister;

 6) Joey;

 7) Romance In Durango;

 8) Black Diamond Bay;

 9) Sara.

Was never a big fan of Dylans music, lyric wise he has never been matched and never will be.

I feel across this album one dark wet Friday night in England.

There was a show on late called the Old grey whistle test.

Sit back and enjoy said Bob Harris,so with a few beers in me i sat back and listened to Hurricane, the life of a boxer.

It stunded me in its simpleness but also in how powerfull it was.

For me Desire ranks amoung Dylans greatest works alone with the freewheelin and the brilliant Blood on the Tracks.

I went out and got it along with more of his stuff.

I dont think we will ever see another Dylan lyric wise.

Kate Bush;The Hounds of Love.

Running up that hill
Hounds of love
The big sky
Mother stands for comfort
Cloudbusting
And dream of sheep
Under ice
Waking the witch
Watching you without me
Jig of life
Hello earth
The morning fog

Forget your queens of music, this lady is it.

From a funny start in her music life she was taken under the arm of Rod Argent and never looked back.

Alot will only know here for her singles, but this is an album of top class, probelly the best ever made by a women.

She had something which Stevie Nicks tryed to do with her very good Wild Heart album, but never realy got there, she was different.

The Album is a joy from start to finish,if you only know her singles, you will be shocked at how good this master piece is.

Would get in my top 3 of all time

Joy Division:

Unknown pleasures.

1. Disorder

2. Day Of The Lords

3. Candidate

4. Insight

5. New Dawn Fades

6. She's Lost Control

7. Shadow Play

8. Wilderness

9. Interzone

There always come a time in life when you are hit with something music wise that changes your life in a Music way.

Unknown pleasures was that time.

The boys from Manchester came at the right time for music,Punk was on a downhill slide and there was not much hope for British music.

Lead by singer sound writer the late Ian Curtis, they where haunting, sad and scary all in one brilliant move.

Only ever made 2 real albums Unknown pleasures and the just as good Closer.

3 if you count Still(but that was something thrown together after Curtises death)

The band inspirred a revolution in British music, with such greats as the Smiths,Stone Roses and many more coming after.

After his death the band carried on to become the delight of New Order.

As on his grave stone says,Love will tear you apart, listern to any Joy Division album and it will tear you apart, the best album made by man or beast ever.

YES: Close to the Edge:

This is Yes at the height of their creative powers. An essential recording for all progressive collections. This contains just three pieces of music; the epic "Close to the Edge", the heavy rocking of "Siberian Khatru", and the soaring beauty of "And You And I". Bill Bruford left Yes after this to join King Crimson. "Close To The Edge" is broken into various sections. Everything from sound effects to the avant-garde, beautiful vocals; catchy. Wakeman creates some wonderful atmosphere throughout but I especially enjoy the Mellotron and the beautiful church-like organ section. "And You And I" is simple yet dramatic. Again Wakeman's Mellotron, this time mixed with some slide (or lap steel) played by Howe create the perfect music for Anderson's soaring vocals."Siberian Khatru" ends the CD and is very heavy - this one rocks. Some nice guitar work from Howe on this one as well. A great opening to say the least. I have never heard anything the band has done since that stands upto this record overall (though they have come close). Essential

Stole that reveiw, but about sums up probely the best progressive rock band the world has ever seen IMHO

There are other great Yes Albums,Fragile being one but i think Close to the edge about summed up what they where and how good they could be.

Many have tryed to copy there stuff over the years,Pink Floyd being one,King Crimson,Genisis being another, but with Floyd they never realy hit it off with me.ok Dark side was a good album, evan a great one,but it lacked something for me,never realy had the magic of Andersons voice that could make or break a band.

It also got together one of the best combos going in Yes and Roger Dean, some of the best Album covers ever(sadley not this one on the outside)

Still sounds great today, which says alot

The Smiths: The Queen is Dead.

Well what to say about the Smiths, hit the high life about the same time as Joy Division did,but unlike the great Ian Curtis,Morrissay was not going to top himself and become a living legand in his homeland.

People have always said the Smiths where over rated, well that might be true for some, but i dont think they where overrated, just not understud.

Morrissey with alot of help from Johnny Marr(i might add) about summed up Britian in this time,it was sad and the youth had no future, people where out of work and old people where getting robbed and mugged,no one gave a about Queen or country,it was look after yourself.

Slagged by some toffs as being anti Royal(with its Album name),but they where not the ones having to fight for a living.

It was once said by Music Express that Morrissey has done more for British music than Elvis,if true i dont know, but he did change something in England with music and still does today,a closed man that goes away from the star light today, but still one of the best sell out acts around

Just hear and realy hear There is a Light that never goes out.

Change your world

Be Bop Deluxe:

Live in the Air Age (1977)
  1. Life In the Air Age
  2. Ships In the Night
  3. Piece of Mine
  4. Fair Exchange
  5. Mill Street Junction
  6. Adventures in a Yorkshire Landscape
  7. Blazing Apostles
  8. Shine
  9. Sister Seagull
  10. Maid in Heaven
Fronted by Bill Nelson,BBD where never the best studio band around, althought Morden Music is a master piece.

It was LIVE that they where great.

Nelsons, brilliant work on the Gibson Guitar is still hard to beat evan after many years.

They realy where good, evan great live and still rate as the best band ive ever seen live.

Nelson went on to set up Red Noise after, but it would never be the same again, did see him last year on a 30yr re-union concert, the guys still got it.

Rush: Farwell to Kings.
  1. "A Farewell To Kings"(Peart) – 5:51
  2. "Xanadu"(Peart) – 11:08
  3. "Closer to the Heart"(Peart/Talbot) – 2:53
  4. "Cinderella Man" (Lee)– 4:21
  5. "Madrigal" (Peart)– 2:35
  6. "Cygnus X-1"(Peart) – 10:25 .

Well the boys from canada are without doubt the best 3 piece that have ever gone live.

Founded by Geddy Lee,Alex Lifeson and john Rutsey, they where short lived in this lineup till Neil Peart joined in 74,they never looked back.

I have picked Farwell to Kings for no real reason,i could have gone with the very good Moving pictures or the Brilliant Hemispheres, but farwell done it for me for one reason,Xanadu.

I have seen Rush about 10 times and am always amazed how good they are(or where)

Cracking stuff.

I agree 100% with the Rush album. The live version of Closer to the Heart that use to get played on Rock stations is one of the best live songs ever performed.
I do agree that Tom Sawyer and some of the other Rush albums rank up there also.

I think AC/DC - Back in Black album should be on this list. Very few rock and roll albums with as much staying power and wide range of fans.

http://www.therockradio.com/ac-dc/biography.html - good info

Few Rock Bands had albums like Def Leppard did with Hysteria

A great band, that is still rocking today - and a great album.

This album had as many stadium anthems and rock and roll great songs as Guns N Roses did.

I saw them where their drummer had both arms and only one, lol.

Finally, I just saw them again a few weeks ago and they are still great. ANYONE can play behind the main guy, but as long as the main guy is there - they are still one of the best rock bands of all time.

Who is that front man you ask? Two words say it all - AXL ROSE.

Guns N Roses still rocks live and they performed for almost 2 and 1/2 hours in an amazing show. They have SO MANY big memorable songs that it is hard to pick one album, but Appetite For Destruction still ranks as one of the best stadium rock albums of all time.

There will never be a band like them

duh, by me, lol. I was just singling the Tom Sawyer song in my head as I was posting.
I actually saw them in Boston in the 80's and they were great. Then a few years back I saw them again in Raleigh, NC and amazingly Lee, with that unique voice, still sounded great.
Awesome band..

A modern-day warrior
Mean mean stride,
Todays tom sawyer
Mean mean pride.

Though his mind is not for rent,
Dont put him down as arrogant.
His reserve, a quiet defense,
Riding out the days events.
The river

And what you say about his company
Is what you say about society.
Catch the mist, catch the myth
Catch the mystery, catch the drift.

The world is, the world is,
Love and life are deep,
Maybe as his eyes are wide.

Todays tom sawyer,
He gets high on you,
And the space he invades
He gets by on you.

No, his mind is not for rent
To any God or government.
Always hopeful, yet discontent,
He knows changes arent permanent,
But change is.

And what you say about his company
Is what you say about society.
Catch the witness, catch the wit,
Catch the spirit, catch the spit.

The world is, the world is,
Love and life are deep,
Maybe as his skies are wide.

Exit the warrior,
Todays tom sawyer,
He gets high on you,
And the energy you trade,
He gets right on to the friction of the day.
