JBF: I agree

Where are we now verse 11 and 12?

Yep, if your satisfied with my previous post and the short reference to verse 10?

I have no further problem with what's been said so far. Proceed.

Scott

Verse 11:

Jesus said, "Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many."

This is Jesus second warning in Matthew 24 about deceptive people who will come in the last days to deceive. Now He is speaking of "false prophets" when first he warned of "false christs". Now He is warning of those who claim and make statements saying that "God said" or claiming to be representatives from God Himself.

Jesus said, "Take heed that no one deceives you."

Matthew 24:4

And well He should make the warning, but the language does say that some will "fall away", but to those who persevere Christ will indeed come.

I agree with what you actually said.

I am not sure that what you said is exactly what you think you said, though.

Well, let's review verse 11 to make sure we are clear before we move forward. How did you read and understand what I said about verse 11?

He is warning that one cannot take a claim to have been given a revelaion direct from God at simple face value.

The claim when heard must be tested and He is about to give one a method to test those claims.

Riding atop a white blimp with the words "I rock" scrolling across the side.

Or he could paraglide into the ring during a world heavyweight championship boxing match.

If he manages either of those methods I will be suitably impressed.

::thumbs::

what's it matter to you?  Don't you have your own plan??  When Christ returns you will be to busy with your own God, maybe that God is yourself.

It's true.

To us, Baha'u'llah PASSES the tests provided in the Bible as to His proofs.

Sounds good Popeysays. Yet the claim must stand up to the already written word of God to be proven as from God. Would you agree?

I was once confused on this issue, but now I am confused on a much higher level. The Bahi' say that the second coming of Christ happened in 1840something. I was talking to some Jehovah's Witnesses about this the other day, and they said the Bahai' were wrong. They said the second coming happened in 1914, and instead of an apocalyptic Second Coming it is to be interpreted as an unseen presence, and the visible events of the final times will occur at a later date.

Now, if the second coming has already happened twice, according to these two groups, and I missed it both times, there isn't much chance, it seems, that I will be able to catch it the third time. But, they say that, the third times a charm.::rotfl::::rotfl::

Good 'cause it was the Bab, not Baha`u'llah Who made the announcement in 1844.

Six years later the Bab was martyred in circumstances which echo the crucifixion in more ways than not. The Bab said He WHom God will Make Manifest would come soon and to look to the year 19 for that event. That would have been 1863 in the Christian calendar and that was when Baha`u'llah made His announcement a few days before He left Baghdad at the command of the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire for Constantinople.

As to the Jehovah Witnesses, you would have to realize that the Witnesses are an offshoot of the Millerites (you can look them up in the Wikipedia, if you like) which came ab out during the aftermath of The Great Disappointment (if that still does not ring a bell you can look that up too in the WIkipedia). The WItnesses made a year prediction several times between their formation in 1846 or so and 1914.

Of course, the WItnesses and the Millerites were both ignorant of the  Declaration of the Bab on the evening of May 22nd, 1844 AD in Shiraz in Persia. The Millerites were crushed by the apparent absence of the second coming.

While obvious to all, it was an event which seperated the spiritually dead from the spiritually quick.

You could avoid asking unnecessary questions with a little research.

Scott

Verse 12

Jesus said, "And because lawlessness will abound the love of many will grow cold."

1) the condition of without law

a) because ignorant of it

b) because of violating it

2) contempt and violation of law, iniquity, wickedness

Because of the disregard for the Mosiac Law and the rule of law in general...wickedness and iniquity will increase. Love and concern for others will decrease and people will turn to the cares of self and less concerns of others.

Jesus said, "Take heed that no one deceives you."

Matthew 24:4
