You can say that this is finished and completed and we are simply waiting for the return of Christ.

That's exactly what I am saying. The time has come, the events have happened and the kingdom waits for us to build it.

But do you want to get back to Matthew 24?

Scott

16 “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house.

Matthew 24:16-17

This time of trouble or "Jacob's Trouble" is centered in Israel. Jerusalem is the "Epicenter"
One could label it fullfilled by reference to the destruction in AD70 and/or also see it to be future. Again, it does not change how Jesus said He will come after this tribulation...

Jesus said, "Take heed that no one deceives you."

Matthew 24:4

Jesus was not a far-travelled man. Surely that does not mean He knew that the coming of the next advent would not be a world-shattering event.

What He is saying is that when the time comes for His return, one had best drop everything to be vigilant.

Why would one have to be vigilant if Christ was literally going to come down out of the heavens on a cloud simultaneously seen by all of Creation?

Answer: Because the descent from heaven is going to be full of mystery for the believers and unbelievers alike, and if you do not empty yourself of presuppositions then you might be deceived by those suppositions.

Scott

You are jumping ahead Scott. Are you fine with my general description of verses 16-17?

The next several consecutive verses show that Jesus is not speaking of His return yet but telling them to get out of town because of the horrific tribulation that is coming upon the region. You are jumping ahead.

And verse 16-17 are the beginning of that.

I made my comments, if you are afraid I am jumping ahead, get on with it.

And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!
Matthew 24:18-19

Again, Jesus is continuing to show the severity of this comming wrath upon the unbelieving world and Israel. To note again, this prophesy has it's epicenter in Israel.

Or, it is warning people to be ready at the drop of a hat or a hint of the event.

"If you blink, you'll miss it."

"You don't want to miss this."

or: "The good servant will be ready whenever the master shows his face."

Verses 18-19 use "action words". Jesus is telling them something "not to do". It's full of(verbs) or action words. The proof again will be the next following verses.

With the proviso that these verses also encourage vigilance and intone a cold wording that he who is vigilant had best not be too concerned about worldly things, please go on.

Scott

And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath. For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.

Matthew 24:20-21

Scott, I used 20-21 because of the link. Here Jesus is speaking of "Jacobs Trouble" that will come upon Israel and the world. A time of terrible tribulation and difficulty like has never been in history or ever will be. This will be a time of darkness and destruction. Again, centered on Israel & Jerusalem, yet...will be experienced world-wide.

Thanks, that's another indication that Baha`u'llah is indeed prophesied by Daniel. I had not thought of that one before, in fact it may be original with you and I.The Bab was executed on July, 9th 1950. That ushered in a period of tribulation for the believers that puts in the shade all claims of Roman persecution  of the Christians. It was almost exactly three-and-one-half years between that date and the date that Baha`u'llah was released from the dungeon of the Siyah Chal and exiled to Baghdad.During that period some 20,000+ Babi's were killed in pogroms initiated by the Shah. THis was about nine out of ten Babi's, and certainly counts for what you describe. It also begins the fulfillment of Micah 7:12"12 In that day also he shall come even to thee from Assyria, and from the fortified cities, and from the fortress even to the river, and from sea to sea, and from mountain to mountain. "I may do a paper on that.Regards,Scott

Dear friend,

Bab executed in 1850 and not 1950.
