Dear friend, Well let's see: Sun darkened - The only way I know of for the sun to literally darken is if it runs out of fuel - If true - no more earth. Moon will not give its light - the moon does not generate any light itself wich means the sun runs out of fuel - no more earth. Stars will fall from heaven - most stars are bigger then earth - even a very small one means - no more earth. Powers of the heavens shaken(not stirred)- gravity and otherforces too numerous to mention - no more earth. Go figure? Your turn, JBF. Free.man

Page 25 These are the melodies, sung by Jesus, Son of Mary, in accents of majestic power in the Ri?ván of the Gospel, revealing those signs that must needs herald the advent of the Manifestation after Him. In the first Gospel according to Matthew it is recorded: And when they asked Jesus concerning the signs of His coming, He said unto them: "Immediately after the oppression of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the earth shall be shaken: and then 25 shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet." Rendered into the Persian tongue, the purport of these words is as follows: When the oppression and afflictions that are to befall mankind will have come to pass, then shall the sun be withheld from shining, the moon from giving light, the stars of heaven shall fall upon the earth, and the pillars of the earth shall quake. At that time, the signs of the Son of man shall appear in heaven, that is, the promised Beauty and Substance of life shall, when these signs have appeared, step forth out of the realm of the invisible into the visible world. And He saith: at that time, all the peoples and kindreds that dwell on earth shall bewail and lament, and they shall see that divine Beauty coming from heaven, riding upon the clouds with power, grandeur, and magnificence, sending His angels with a great sound of a trumpet. Similarly, in the three other Gospels, according to Luke, Mark, and John, the same statements Page 26 are recorded. As We have referred at length to these in Our Tablets revealed in the Arabic tongue, We have made no mention of them in these pages, and have confined Ourselves to but one reference. Kitab'i Iqan, pages as noted. Last edited on 12:43 am by Popeyesays |

Popeyesays, wrote:I'm sorry, but it is not clear or evident that these signs have symbolic signification. Some interpretations say, that the sun will be obscured, which is the most likely meaning. Nowhere that I know of does it say the sun will go out. If it is obscured, we will neither see it or the moon. As for the stars falling from heaven, it will be a heavy duty meteor bombardment.

We have major meteor showers twice a year. For instance it is recorded by the Russian ambassador that the sun was obscured in Tabriz on July 9th, 1850 from shortly after noon until the next day--huge sandstorms, blowing dust and clouds. That was the day and city where the Bab was executed. The act is that these astronimical and weather events occur all the time within the parameters that you set, 'dawber. When Krakatao blew its top off, or during the Tunguska explosion all these things happened, but it does not seem that Christ came in conjunction with the event Why? The spiritual meanings seem far more conclusive. The Sun of the Revelation of God was obscured from man, the times were dreadful, especially in Persia in 1844. The clergy and religious authorities were blind and incapable of offering guidance or direction. Spiritual truth and meaning to these things is more important in this respect. To believe that the sun will gutter and die, the moon disappear and the stars fall to earth is superstition, not rational thought. Regards, Scott

To believe that the sun will gutter and die, the moon disappear and the stars fall to earth is superstition, not rational thought. I'm not saying this, nor is the Bible. Sure, these things happened in the past. But, I believe what Jesus is speaking of here will be so great a happening, that all the rest will pale in comparision. Also, Jesus was speaking of Himself, not the Baha'u'llah. He is not The Christ, nor His second coming. The things that Jesus spoke of, we, nor anyone else has seen.

That's cool with me, I don't agree, of course, but we'll just have to let God sort it out ffor us in the end. I don't think Jesus was saying He, Himself in the body He wore at the time was ever going to return. God is SPirit ater all, not Flesh. Regards, Scott

Jesus has already sent the Spirit after He left in the flesh. In John 14:3, He says He is going to prepare a place for us and will come again and receive us to Himself. He will come in His glorified body. How is He returning in the Spirit if when He left He said He will send His Spirit to teach us, dwell in us; and abide with us forever in John 14:16?

That's reasonable. However,k how do you tell which obscurence is the significant one? Which eclips of the moon is the ONE? Which meteor shower? We have major meteor showers twice a year. These are silly questions and comments because the Bible indicates it will be the ones that everyone will know is the Second Coming of Christ. So it is the one that is part of the unprecedented historically dramatic event - the one that no one will need to have it explained to them when Jesus came back, to look here or there, to read this or that, interpret this or that, or have to go study and figure out it was 150 years ago or some other such thing.

But you don't, so it does not matter. Regards, Scott

Scott, What would be the point of moving on in Matthew chapter 24 if when we come to Jesus making clear warnings to His followers about His coming... they are called "symbolic"? If the Bahai faith uses the "symbolic" tactic every time the plot thickens... why should I continue?

Also, I don't have to believe the Bible is the word of God to identify conflicts or problems in the Bahai position. I have my own relationship with God, but if it makes you feel better to dismiss my answer because my faith is different than yours or I don't believe God wrote the Bible, that's fine. But I think my answer to you holds water, regardless your typically dismissive, unreligious, unJesus-like, evasive response.
