Nepal Airline Sacrifices Two Goats to Sky God in Face of Aircraft Problems


Excerpt:

It’s not exactly the most common way to fix a commercial airliner, but officials from Nepal’s state-run airline sacrificed two goats on Sunday in effort to do just that, according to Reuters.

Faced with technical problems on an aging Boeing 757 aircraft, Nepal Airlines' representatives told local media the sacrifices were made to appease Akash Bhairab, the Hindu sky god.

“The snag in the plane has now been fixed and the aircraft has resumed its flights,” said Raju K.C., a senior airline official, without explaining what the problem had been.

Sacrificing goats may seem unusual, at least to Americans, one airline veteran said it's not outlandish in some cultures.

YAH, personally, I don't want my aircraft repair people to think breaking out the archaic rulebook on how to please the Sky God is an OK thing to do.

If they kill the goats and chuck them out it would reduce the weight on the plane I suppose.

I guess they could have thrown them out whilst still alive but that would be a bit f**ked up !

The vast majority of Nepal residents are Hindus or Buddhists, what was the religious demographic of the passengers ?, Hindus and Buddhists don't sacrifice things in the name of their religion in fact both religions hold any life as sacred.

What Aethelred isn't saying here is that he sacrifices the goats IN the drivers and passengers front seat of his car!
