AUSTRALIA-- fundamentalist church pastor had sex with two of his teenage daughters to educate them on how to be good wives, a South Australian court has heard.
The 54-year-old man, who cannot be named, was today sentenced in the SA District Court to eight and a half years jail after pleading guilty to seven counts each of incest and unlawful sexual intercourse.

The court heard that the man had sex with his daughters for nearly a decade from 1991 when they were aged 13 and 15 at the family property.

The sex took place at various locations including in a shearer's shed, a paddock, on the back of a ute and, on one occasion, at the girls' grandparents house.

The man told the court the sex was not about fulfilling his desires but about teaching his daughters how to behave for their husbands when they eventually married, as dictated in scripture.

In sentencing, Judge David Lovell said the misrepresentation of scripture used to justify the abuse of the girls "defied belief", and that he had "hypocritically betrayed" his religion and principles.

"You said the acts were about learning about sex rather than engaging in the acts of sex," Judge Lovell said.

"I do not accept that.

"You treated your daughters as your property ... using them to satisfy and gratify your sexual urges."

Judge Lovell gave full credit for the man's guilty pleas, saying he was genuinely remorseful and had a good chance of rehabilitation as his wife and the church remained supportive.

The man will be eligible for parole in four years.

The judge should be not only ashamed of himself, but disbarred.  How could the man get "full credit" for his guilty plea when he (as the judge acknowledged) committed perjury?

Let's look at this for a moment:  If he really wanted to teach his children about sex, :wtf: took 10 years to teach?!  If you're gonna lie under oath, shouldn't you at least try to make it a believable lie?

And 4 years is a joke.  He should've gotten at least 4 years for each year he abused them.  Per child.

Well JBF the offender was a fundamentallst church pastor who committed his terrible crimes using biblical scripture as his justification.

I suppose you could attach some kind of branching theme about the hypocrisy of religion if you were that way inclined, as Amy pointed out one of the more disturbing aspects of what was a terrible crime is the fact his church is standing by and supporting him regardless of the heinous nature of his crimes.

JBF, the offender admitted that his actions were int the name of his faith and he was following instructions from the bible. It's one of many examples of criminal acts attempting to be justified by religious belief and vague religious texts.

Of course, an atheist can commit horrific crimes, but an atheist will never commit a crime in the name of 'atheism'.

Whether this is hypocritical or not depends on whether you think he's telling the truth in regards to his religious beliefs.  If his religious beliefs really do encompass pedophilia and incest, you can call him a pervert, an evil father, and a just all-around f***ed-in-the-head guy, but he's not a hypocrite.

Arguably, it would be better if he was a hypocrite.  At least then there wouldn't be a churchfull of people who believed the same thing.

I think there's a more disturbing possibility:  There's a chance the others are supporting him because that is what they believe.  It's possible (although I would have to hear their rationale, of course) that they don't even think there's anything to forgive.

Very rarely will you go wrong overestimating people's ability to be evil bastards.

FGP, you are right, there are just as many screwed up people who claim to be religious or not, religion will not fix your head, thats for certain. It does make for a great cop-out though.

Besides, it's not that he "claimed' to be religious that is the disturbing part, it's - as I said - because he claims his actions were "as dicta
