It's a metaphor for that transformation that is our life's process---

-- overcoming the "animal" (for lack of a better word) tendencies that we are born manifesting

-- and to learn to control those tendencies, and instead fully manifest the Spiritual abilities which are latent in each one of us.

 

That's why being 'born again' isn't just some event that takes 5 emotional moments at the front of a church -- but is instead a life-long journey of transformation of our character, our morals, our ethics, and most importantly, our souls!

 

This is why so many people are 'born again' one time, and then don't change.

Sadly, many thousands of ministers and other teaching Christians have failed to teach people that 'being saved' isn't some kind of event down at the church on Sunday mornings-- but is instead a life journey of hard work to transform oneself.

So people get all bouncy and happy and so on --- and then when they figure out that being 'born again' that Sunday morning was just 'signing the contract' in essence...

..they're QUITE disappointed and don't want to put the needed effort into the transformation and 'long haul' part of the bargain....

And that article does a good job of  explaining that being "born again" or being "born from above"  isn't just words and an event...

...but it still fails to talk about the PERSONAL side of the transformation, the learning of HOW to examine oneself, to know how to objectively analyze one's own progress, etc.

That's what's so unclear to most people--

That's why so many people say "I'm born again", yet they are the SAME person they were 10 years ago when they first talked of being 'born again'.

They didn't get the part about "what is my spiritual/moral/ethical' reality now.

What should it be next month?

What list of "bad" things are there which I do almost every day should I now set as goals to NEVER do again by this time next year?

Things like that.. that's what's never laid out in little articles like that one.

Like Ghandi, I have great respect for Christianity.

Just not for all it's leaders who may not do things worthy of the greatness of Christ.

Misleading potential Christians, even if only initially, about what being "born again" is all about, making it sound like a quick and easy decision celebrated at the front of the church, rather than the lifelong committment to struggle and sacrifice and internal personality transformation and deep change that it is.....

..that's what is not respectful of Christ and His Teachings.
