Having visited the Dead Sea myself on several occasions, I can tell you that this IS a neat place!

The Dead Sea

The Dead Sea is famous for being the lowest point on Earth (an ear-popping 1,400 feet below sea level) and for being so salty that humans naturally float on top of it.

But in recent years, it's also become famous for the tremendous rate at which it's evaporating. Currently, the Sea recedes about 3 feet each year, leaving ever-growing plains of salty, puckered, sinkhole-prone dirt in its wake.

To really understand the phenomenon, tourists need only visit the Ein Gedi Spa. When it opened 20 years ago, you could step out the back door and be within a few feet of the salty water. But today, the Sea has receded so much that the trek to its shore amounts to a 1-mile hike.

The Dead Sea's imminent demise is also due to its neighbors' need for water. For the past several decades, Israelis, Palestinians, and Jordanians have been siphoning off more and more of the River Jordan -- the Dead Sea's primary water source. Growing populations and increased agriculture now require so much hydration that the Jordan is barely a trickle of its former self.

Several solutions have been suggested, but the most promising is a canal that would funnel water from the Red Sea to the Middle East. The only problem is that the plan relies on Israel, Palestine, and Jordan engaging in long-term friendly relations -- something that may not happen in time to save the treasured landmark.

My heavens!!!!

My thread has been answered finally!
By no less than the esteemed Aethelred!

Yes-- supposedly, all the drainage being taken off the Jordan for agriculture on both sides of it (Jordan and Israel)
is causing there to be a greater evaporation against the amount of water now flowing in.

I remember going to the mud baths at Ein Gedi--- and realising from the structure that they were actually designed to have the water of the Dead Sea right at hand -- it was quite some ways away down the muddy shore -- and apparently that's only gotten worse in the 15 years !! since I've been there..

::wiseman::Could this ultimately be God beginning to prepare the way for the future armies of Gog and Magog to easily cross over into Israel for the future battle?

Hmmm ::scratch::

JBF.... just be quiet please....

If you had ever BEEN to Israel, you'd know what you were talking about.

Since I lived there for a number of years, let me teach you some basic geography of Israel which you seem to be unable to grasp by looking at a MAP first, and then doing a little research after that.

The Jordan River is only 3 feet deep in most places, and no more than 60 feet wide in a lot of places.

I know this from direct and personal observation because I have WADED across it on multiple occasions to touch the shore of Jordan, etc -- in upwards of 15 or 20 different locations.

It has NEVER been a river like the Nile or Ole Miss.

You have WAY WAY too American of a view on this.

That would not even BEGIN to slow down any sort of modern army AT ALL.

Secondly, the routes that an army would take would NOT be from the southeast where the Jordan flows.

They would be from the northeast (the direction that the armies of "Gog" and "Magog" would come from.

For the armies of Persia and Russia to decide to arrive via crossing the river Jordan would involve them essentially travelling from Chicago to New York by way of going through Miami on the way (I don't know if I should use another map reference with you)

Why don't you go and consider the price of concrete?

I've heard that's dropped lately, and that lowered price is CERTAINLY a sign of the end times, since it will CLEARLY mean that those armies of Gog and Magog will be far more easily able to afford the concrete to build better roads to travel to Israel on.
