Some interesting thoughts about the story of Moses and the Golden Calf.

Point #1 -- According to Christians, EVERY verse in the Bible is relevant and has SOME useful purpose--- there is no "fluff" in the Bible that is without meaning and reason'd-etat.

Ergo, I would like an logical and reasonable explanation of the below, with reference to my point about grinding up the Calf.

Exodus 32:19-20 KJV
And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses' anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount.  20And he took the calf which they had made, and burnt it in the fire, and ground it to powder, and strawed it upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.
Exodus 32:19-20 NIV
When Moses approached the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, his anger burned and he threw the tablets out of his hands, breaking them to pieces at the foot of the mountain. 20 And he took the calf they had made and burned it in the fire; then he ground it to powder, scattered it on the water and made the Israelites drink it.

Exodus 32:19-20 NASB
19It came about, as soon as Moses came near the camp, that (Z)he saw the calf and the dancing; and Moses' anger burned, and (AA)he threw the tablets from his hands and shattered them at the foot of the mountain.  20(AB)He took the calf which they had made and burned it with fire, and ground it to powder, and scattered it over the surface of the water and made the sons of Israel drink it.

(Interesting side note: the NASB says that only the men were made to drink the water. All other versions say that ALL of the people of Israel were made to drink it.
Grammar in terms of gender in most languages is VERY clear, especially in terms of punishment and other important documented events. I cannot imagine that the word used here in the sources is so vague that both "men" and "people" and "children" are completely interchangeable. NASB appears to just be careless in it's translation.)

Question for the Christians::
Why did Moses GRIND the calf down to powder , why did he cast it upon the water and then order the people/children/men/take-your-pick to DRINK it??

If the verses of the Bible are full of meaning, there is SOMETHING going on here with GRINDING down the calf, and putting it in water to be drunk.....

What meaning is there in the people's drinking of powdered gold-water??

Actually, Hebrew is sometimes that unclear. I haven't looked up the Hebrew text here. Would you like me to, or is it really that important?

Question for sirlamre.

If you represent the Baha'i faith which preaches love and acceptance of all faiths why are you so hard on Christianity?

Question for sirlamre.

Who looks more like the hypocrite?::scratch::

The one who quotes the bible yet being of another persuasion to try to validate their religion and then beats on it the next day or the one who quotes the bible only to support the biblical faith that they already have?

did I say the verse had no meaning and was silly or something???

I think Moses did that for some very good reason, and I'm honestly curious about what more learned Christians than I have to say about what their studies have led them to understand about what  this verse is saying.

I don't think that's hypocritical....

It would have been hypocritical to say I think the verse is silly, etc ---- but I said no such thing and you know it, JBF.

Quit dodging an honest question by maligning the hearer.... THAT is hypocritical....

You constantly look to belittle Christianity and the bible here. It's funny how you play so sly and innocent every time. Maybe the Baha'i faith doesn't embrace all religions as they appear to preach love and unity? Well, as long as it's not Christianity right? :)

I wonder if Moses wasn't making the point that the false god they had created was powerless to the point that it could be consumed by the very people who had worshiped it?  Just a thought.
