I'm thinking PMH is still kicking  over in the other thread.

You might have to drag his carcass over here and whack on it some more.

He's still twitching, so go get him!!

I'm sure he'll put up a LITTLE bit more of a fight, especially in a nice clean new thread just for him!

I'm not getting him, I'm afraid of him. I'm afraid of anyone who honestly thinks slugs were teleported from other continents to get on an Ark.

The Cromagnons destroyed the Neanderthals.  By definition, the next mutation that is better will result in that race destroying ours.  We will not be able to stop them.

(Read:  "The Golden Boy" the story that the new Nicholas Cage movie was based on.)

Thanks for mentioning that book, Fox.  It at least gives us another avenue to discuss the topic.

The good news is, everyone who wants to can download the book here.

The bad news is, the book is pretty slipshod when it comes to its research.  On page 15, we find this:

Life evolution is founded on the twin theories of spontaneous generation and Lamarckism (the inheritance
of acquired characteristics);—yet, although they remain the basis of biological evolution, both were debunked by
scientists over a century ago.

To anyone that's actually read anything about evolution, this is obvious nonsense.  Lamarckian evolution is a theory of evolution that is at odds with Darwinian evolution.  Lamarckian evolution said that traits that organisms developed throughout their lifetime through effort were passed on to the offspring.  (A common example used is the giraffe's neck.  Under the Lamarckian theory, giraffes acquired their long necks by successive generations of giraffes stretching to reach branches on trees.)

No vestige of Lamarck's theory remains in modern evolutionary theory.

I'll read the rest of the book to see what I can glean from it.  Thanks for bringing it up.

I don't know about that.  That depends on whether or not we see the next race coming.  I personally think that we're going to be pruning the evolutionary tree.  Humans select not only for fitness, but also for aesthetics.

I haven't read the whole thing.  I've only started reading it, but I'm finding similar errors on each page.  It appears to be a layman's-level book with a layman's understanding of the subject.  It looks like it's designed to win debates with scientists, rather than to teach actual science.

Hi, Fox.

The problem is that the book pretends to be a teaching tool, to give its readers "the truth", and to convince others that it is the truth.  Science debates issues all the time, but it's done by arguing real data, not the kind of falsehoods I've seen in the book so far.

What's all this "used to" stuff?  There are still people being born with tails.
